Wimbledon Betting – Top Mens’ and Womens’ Favorites

by BetOnline.com on October 30, 2014

Normally, Wimbledon sets up like boxing betting, with two heavy favorites among the men and women expected to duke it out – Nadal/Federer and Williams/Williams. This year, things look more intriguing, with multiple players legitimately in the hunt. How do the old faves’ chances look against the newcomers?

Roger Federer (+112)

The Swiss Mister is on the cusp of all-time greatness. His French Open win tied him with Pete Sampras for the all-time lead in Grand Slam titles, so he’ll be extra hungry to win the elusive 15th and cement his legacy.

Andy Murray (+350)

Could the Brit be Federer’s top challenger in Wimbledon betting this year? The locals think so. It would be a great storyline if Murray pulled it off, as he’d be the first “home” champion since 1936.

Rafael Nadal (+400)

We’re still waiting on final word from the Spaniard after he tested his knee against Lleyton Hewitt and did not fare well, losing in straight sets. If he plays, he clearly won’t be at 100 per cent, but you could consider taking a flier on his better-than-normal odds when you make your sports predictions.

Pick: Federer

Venus Williams (+250)

Last year’s camp seems to be getting a lot of mileage out of past accomplishments; she failed miserably at the Aussie Open and French Open, losing in the first week. She does have two minor tourney wins this season, so her game isn’t at rock bottom. She may not be worth the low value, though.

Serena Williams (+275)

After losing to her sister in last year’s final, she’s out for revenge and could very well get it. She never seems to fare well outside the Grand Slams but she saves her best performances for when it matters.

Maria Sharapova (+700)

Picking past champs always makes for good betting management and Sharapova took the Wimbledon crown in 2004. However, she’s still gradually working her way back to form after she missed 10 months with a recurring shoulder injury. You still have to consider her because of the +700 value.
