Tennis Betting – Federer, Djokovic Cruise To Round 3

by BetOnline.com on November 7, 2014

The Wimbledon finals odds makers are expecting to see Roger Federer playing on the last Sunday of the tournament. So far, he hasn’t done anything to prove them wrong.

The online betting invested heavily into Roger Federer to win Wimbledon and he had a very easy time of things on Wednesday afternoon.

He won again in straight sets (6-2, 6-2, 6-4), which propelled him into the third round. Federer has yet to be fully tested at Wimbledon and has won both of his first two matches in straight sets.

There was a little bit of concern about Federer’s first match since he did lose his serve early in the first set and he did fail on his first four break point opportunities, but all of that can be attested to early tournament rust. None of those issues surfaced in Round 2.

Novak Djokovic, who is considered to be one of the bigger threats to Federer now that Rafael Nadal is no longer in the tournament, also advanced to the third round rather easily. Djokovic crushed Simon Greul in three sets. A lot of handicappers sports picks are cautious with Djokovic as he has been known to be inconsistent.

No. 7 seed Fernando Verdasco also advanced to the third round with a four-set victory as did Jo-Wilfred Tsonga (walkover) and French Open finalist and No. 13 seed Robin Soderling.

There was an upset on the men’s side and it was No. 18 seed Rainer Schuettler, who is a veteran on the tour. The 33-year-old German lost to 24-year-old Israeli, Dudi Sela, who smoked him in three straight sets.

Aside from that, all the seeds on the men’s side slipped through to Round 3 without many problems.
