Stamps Limited in Standings, not on CFL Odds Board

CFL Football Calgary Stampeders betting

With a tough schedule against the East Divisions top teams coming up, the Calgary Stampeders need to take advantage of their Week 17 matchup with the 4-11 Saskatchewan Roughriders if they want to better their position heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Even then, it may not be possible.

According to Bodog’s online sportsbook, the Stamps have 5/1 odds of winning the Grey Cup, but with the B.C. Lions and Edmonton Eskimos playing as consistently as they have been, Calgary will need to not only win when it counts but also cross their fingers for a little help if they want to rise further up the CFL odds board.

Currently third in the West with their 8-7 record, the Stamps have long eyed up the first-round playoff berth inherent with the top spot in the conference. They would even settle for the No. 2 seed’s home-field advantage in the opening round.

Unfortunately, accomplishing either is easier said than done.

Though it won’t hurt their chances, a win in Week 17 won’t necessarily bump Calgary into a better position in the standings. With three games left in the regular season – and the Stamps on the losing end of both tie-breakers – Calgary will need to not just match the teams ahead of them, but leapfrog them altogether.

It’s not the end of the world, however, if they don’t. Thanks to a four-game Roughrider losing streak, the Stamps have their playoff berth guaranteed. The sense of comfort has even allowed head coach John Hufnagel the comfort of trying out backup quarterback Drew Tate in a starter’s role, filling in for a struggling Henry Burris.

Can the Stamps course correct in time for the postseason? It’s quite likely. Can they sneak into one of the top two seeds? Get all your CFL odds at Bodog.
