AL Sportsbook News: Athletics Look To Continue Red-Hot Tear In July

The Oakland Athletics completed a dramatic four-game sweep of the best team in baseball on Sunday, coming back from a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4 in the 10th inning with a walk-off RBI single. It was the Athletics’ sixth walk-off of the month, and improved their record to an MLB-best 14-2 in July. Most importantly, Oakland moved in to a tie with the Baltimore Orioles for the second of two AL Wild Card spots, and is just 5.5 games back of the Texas Rangers for top spot in the AL West. The Athletics get a day off Monday to reflect on what they have done over the past 22 days, and then open a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. Oakland isn’t the only team that has been hot in the AL of late, as the Orioles open a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays on the heels of five-straight wins, while the Detroit Tigers have also won five-straight heading in to a three-game set at Cleveland beginning Tuesday.

NL Online Betting News: Pirates Continue To Push Reds For NL Central Lead

The Pittsburgh Pirates enter a three-game home series against the Chicago Cubs as the winners of five-straight, and will look to extend that streak as they continue to push the Cincinnati Reds for top spot in the National League Central. Andrew McCutchen continues to put up MVP numbers, batting .372 with 22 home runs and 66 RBI, and the Pirates’ 32 home wins are the most in the majors this season. Pittsburgh begins this week just one-half game back of the Reds for first place, with Cincinnati in Houston for a three-game set against the last-place Houston Astros. Meanwhile, the NL East-leading Washington Nationals will continue to monitor Stephen Strasburg’s pitch count when he makes his next start on Wednesday against the New York Mets, the same night that Tim Lincecum looks to help the San Francisco Giants win a third-straight game that he starts when they face the San Diego Padres.

NFL Betting News: Eagles The First Team To Get NFL Training Camps Underway

The Philadelphia Eagles were the first team to get NFL training camp for the 2012 season underway when they opened in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Sunday, and there are several other teams that will open up camp this week. The New England Patriots, New York Giants, and Denver Broncos all open camp on Thursday, with all 32 teams getting their seasons underway by next Tuesday, when the New York Jets and Houston Texans will be the last team’s to open camp.

NCAAF Sports Bet News: Fallout From Penn State Sanctions Monday

The NCAA will punish the Penn State Nittany Lions football program on Monday with severe and unprecedented penalties, which are likely to include the loss of multiple bowls, scholarship reductions, and severe limitations placed on the program. While Penn State will not receive the “death penalty”, the penalties will be enough to force recruits to consider transferring to another program without facing penalties. While the Nittany Lions won’t compete for postseason time anyway, teams across the country will draft lists of players they can potentially recruit out of PSU in time for the 2012 season.
