The Spain and Netherlands World Cup final on Sunday is guaranteed to make history with a first-time winner.

Spain is the 1/2 favorite coming off a thrilling 1-0 victory over Germany in the semifinals. Netherlands is a perfect 6-0 at the World Cup and it dispatched Uruguay last game 3-2.

This is part of a big sports weekend that includes the final MLB games before the All-Star break.

BroburySports (www.broburysports.com) has been running a World Cup special since the opening kick in June.

New members receive a 50% Sign-up Bonus up to $500 (Use Promo Code: GOAL50). Note you must make a minimum deposit of $100.

‘The fact we have an All-European final is surprising given that four South American teams were in the quarterfinals. However, we’re getting incredible interest all around the globe and this weekend’s games will be a great finish.’ said Brobury’s James Woodley.

In addition to Sunday’s game, Germany and Uruguay will meet on Saturday for third-place. Germany won the third place game in 2006, beating Portugal 3-1. They’re heavy -350 favorites to finish third, with upstart Uruguay a great underdog pick.

Woodley continued: ‘Don’t forget the MLB All-Star Game comes up quickly on Tuesday. We’ll have full odds for the game and the Home Run Derby. The Derby is one of our top events of the year and you don’t want to miss it with sluggers like Miguel Cabrera and David Ortiz competing.’

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Athletics play host to the Yankees, the Padres take to the field in Washington, and Uruguay battles the Netherlands at the World Cup.

Chasing the World Cup . . .

The World Cup’s semifinal round begins on Tuesday with Uruguay vs. The Netherlands at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town. Oddsmakers have the Dutch set as big -165 favorites for Tuesday’s matchup, with Uruguay at +550, the draw odds at +250, and the total at 2.5. The Netherlands upset Brazil 2-1 in Port Elizabeth in the World Cup’s quarterfinals, and Uruguay reached the final four by getting past Ghana in penalty kicks.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

The American League schedule for Tuesday has Baltimore at Detroit, Minnesota at Toronto, Boston at Tampa Bay, Cleveland at Texas, the Angels at the White Sox, Kansas City at Seattle, and the Yankees at Oakland. CC Sabathia (10-3, 3.33 ERA) is slated to take on Trevor Cahill (8-2, 2.74 ERA) in that Yankees/Athletics matchup. Lefthander Sabathia has picked up the win in each of his last six starts, holding the Mariners to one earned run over eight innings in his last trip to the mound. Righthander Cahill is coming off a win over the Orioles in which he allowed one run in seven innings.

Meanwhile, the National League on Tuesday offers up Atlanta at Philadelphia, Cincinnati at the Mets, Pittsburgh at Houston, San Francisco at Milwaukee, St. Louis at Colorado, the Cubs at Arizona, Florida at the Dodgers, and San Diego at Washington. The Padres are expected to go with Clayton Richard (6-4, 2.74 ERA) on Tuesday, while the Nationals counter with Livan Hernandez (6-4, 2.98 ERA). Lefthander Richard is coming off back-to-back wins over the Rockies and Marlins, allowing two runs over those 13 innings of work. Righthander Hernandez had to settle for a no-decision in his last outing against the Mets, surrendering just one run on seven hits over seven innings.

Rounding out the Roundup . . .

Finally, there are four games on the WNBA schedule for Tuesday, with Connecticut vs. San Antonio, Indiana vs. Chicago, Phoenix vs. Los Angeles, and New York vs. Seattle. The Liberty (7-8 SU, 7-8 ATS) were defeated 97-82 by Phoenix in their last game, with Cappie Pondexter tossing in 21 points for New York in that contest before taking a flagrant foul and getting ejected. The Storm (15-2 SU, 12-5 ATS) won their sixth straight game last time out, knocking off Los Angeles 75-62. Swin Cash was good for 18 points.

It was a shocking weekend in World Cup action as Brazil and Argentina both got eliminated. Spain is the new Final Four favorite at BroburySports.com, with the first game on Tuesday.

Get a kick out of winning. You get a 50% Sign-up Bonus up to $500 (Use Promo Code: GOAL50). Note you must make a minimum deposit of $100.

Spain (+187)

Spain got a hard-fought 1-0 win over Paraguay in the quarterfinals. That comes on the heels of a 1-0 win over Portugal in the Round of 16.

The offense needs a boost to beat Germany. David Villa has five of the team’s six goals, and more balanced is needed to advance.

Spain is a slight +170 underdog to Germany (+145) on Wednesday. That makes it surprising that Spain is the small favorite to win the whole thing.

Germany (+200)

No team is hotter than Germany right now. They had a 4-1 win over England in the Round of 16, and topped it off with a 4-0 win over Argentina last game. Certainly no one expected the latter outcome as Argentina was a small favorite.

Thomas Muller got a goal in the third minute and three more were added in the second half (two by Miroslav Klose). Muller and Klose both have four tourney goals, but plenty of other guys can beat Spain as well.

Netherlands (+200)

Netherlands has been known as World Cup underachievers, but that’s far from the case this year. A stunning 2-1 win over Brazil in the quarterfinals knocked out the tourney favorite.

They even came back from a 1-0 deficit after a Wesley Sneijder header in the 68th minute put them in the lead for good. Netherlands now gets a big break by getting Uruguay in the semifinals. Uruguay is a quality team, but not the caliber of Germany or Spain.

Netherlands is a big -200 favorite over Uruguay on Tuesday (+600).

Uruguay (+1200)

Uruguay is the only South American team remaining after three lost in the quarterfinals. Paraguay was expected to lose to Spain, but the Argentina and Brazil defeats have shocked the continent.

Uruguay will have to battle Netherlands without striker Luis Suarez (three goals scored). He got a red card for a handball late in the Ghana contest (won in a shootout).

Diego Forlan is having a great tournament with the equalizer last game and three total goals. However, losing Suarez really hurts their chances.

The USA soccer team is back on the pitch Friday when they take on Slovenia. Here’s the 10:00 am ET game preview from BroburySports.com.

Get a kick out of winning. You get a 50% Sign-up Bonus up to $500 (Use Promo Code: GOAL50). Note you must make a minimum deposit of $100.

The odds for this game are USA +105 and Slovenia +260. A tie comes in at +220. The over/under in goals is 2.5, with the ‘under’ at -181.

The USA is coming off a 1-1 tie with England last Saturday. England’s Steven Gerrard scored the first goal in the fourth minute and it looked like it could be a long day.

However, the soccer gods were on their side in the 40th minute when Clint Dempsey scored on an easy shot to goaltender Robert Green. It was one of the biggest blunders in World Cup history, but the Americans will still take the tie.

USA goaltender Tim Howard is also a big storyline. He has hurt ribs, but will play on Friday. Having the experienced and talented Howard in net is one of the big advantages they have in this World Cup.

Slovenia actually leads Group C right now after 1-0 win over Algeria last Sunday. They are making just their second World Cup trip after gaining independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.

The strength of the Slovenia team is defense and goaltending. They will play very conservative and force the faster Americans to take some chances to score. That’s when they will try to counterstrike with their own offense.

Slovenia’s midfielder, Andre Komac has already pronounced that ‘We are going to win the match.’ That kind of bravado doesn’t normally matter once the teams take the field, and it’s not like USA needs extra motivation.

USA will be in great shape to advance to the next round with a win. The Americans and the ‘under’ 2 ½-goals are the deserved favorites. Get up to date soccer scores and other information there.

Current Group C odds

England (-200)

USA (+275)

Slovenia (+500)

Algeria (+5000)

Editor’s note: Green is scheduled to play for England on Friday against Algeria. Coach Fabio Capello is also considering other options, but should stay with his goalkeeper. England is a big -454 favorite, with Algeria at +1150. A tie is +450.

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Tigers play host to the Nationals, the Dodgers continue their series with the Reds, and Spain takes on Switzerland at the World Cup.

Chasing the World Cup . . .

Wednesday’s trio of World Cup matches has Spain vs. Switzerland, Honduras vs. Chile, and South Africa vs. Uruguay. South Africa and Uruguay already have games under their belts at the tournament, with the hosts tying Mexico 1-1 in the opening match and Uruguay playing to a 0-0 tie with France; Uruguay is a +130 favorite for Wednesday, with South Africa at +200, and the draw odds at +220. Spain, one of the World Cup favorites, is listed at -400 against the Swiss (+1000), with those draw odds at +425. As well, Chile is a -180 favorite against Honduras (+450), with draw odds at +300 for that match. Spain is pegged as the -400 favorite to win Group H, with Chile next on that list at +500, Switzerland third at +1000, and Honduras well back at +4000.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

The only National League matchup on the MLB schedule for Wednesday has the Dodgers at Cincinnati, with Los Angeles’ Clayton Kershaw (6-3, 3.13 ERA) slated to take on the Reds’ Mike Leake (5-0, 2.68 ERA). Lefthander Kershaw picked up the victory against the Cardinals in his last trip to the mound, surrendering just three earned runs on four hits over seven innings of work (and fanning 10). Righthander Leake escaped with a no-decision last time out despite giving up five earned runs on 11 hits over just 4 1-3 innings against the Giants. Leake faced the Dodgers in a start on April 22, surrendering five earned runs in his seven innings but still getting the win.

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s interleague schedule has Baltimore at San Francisco, Toronto at San Diego, Milwaukee at the Angels, the Mets at Cleveland, Philadelphia at the Yankees, the White Sox at Pittsburgh, Arizona at Boston, Tampa Bay at Atlanta, Texas at Florida, Oakland at the Cubs, Colorado at Minnesota, Houston at Kansas City, Seattle at St. Louis, and Washington at Detroit. Livan Hernandez (5-3, 2.28 ERA) is set to take on Justin Verlander (7-4, 3.56 ERA) in that Nationals/Tigers matchup. Righthander Hernandez has given up three or fewer earned runs in nine of his last 10 starts, while righthander Verlander has picked up the win in six of his last eight outings.

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Giants begin a home interleague series against the Orioles, while the Netherlands and Italy play their first World Cup matches.

Chasing the World Cup . . .

The World Cup schedule for Monday has the Netherlands vs. Denmark, Japan vs. Cameroon, and Italy vs. Paraguay. The Dutch are the biggest favorite for Monday, as they’re listed at -200 to get past Denmark (+500), with the draw odds at +300. Cameroon is favored at +105 over Japan (+250), with draw odds of +225, while Italy is listed at EVEN odds over Paraguay (+290), with draw odds of +220. The Dutch and Italians are both favored to finish atop their respective groups; the Netherlands is the -200 favorite to win Group E, and Italy is the -225 favorite to end up in first in Group F.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

As well, there are just four games around Major League Baseball on Monday, with Seattle at St. Louis, Milwaukee at the Angels, Toronto at San Diego, and Baltimore at San Francisco. The Orioles will send Chris Tillman (0-2, 5.54 ERA) to the mound in that last matchup, while the Giants counter with Jonathan Sanchez (4-5, 2.82 ERA). Righthander Tillman was tagged with the loss by the Yankees in his last trip to the mound despite surrendering just three runs (two earned) on eight hits over his six innings of work. Lefthander Sanchez is also coming off a losing effort – he allowed three earned runs on seven hits in five innings in his start against the Reds last game.

Will England reach the World Cup Final?

The answer ‘yes’ to this question pays +350, while ‘no’ pays -600. England last made the World Cup final in 1966 when they won the whole thing. In fact, that was the only time they ever made the Final.

Those of you who use a David Beckham picture as a dartboard will certainly say ‘no’ here. England may be one of the favorites, but European teams tend to struggle when out of their continent.

Will there be a new winner of the World Cup?

The answer ‘yes’ to this question pays +125, while ‘no’ pays -175. This is a very interesting prop. Spain is the favorite to win the tournament at 4/1, but they have never won it before. Their highest finish was fourth in 1950.

The next three favorites (Brazil 9/2, England 6/1, and Argentina 15/2) have all won at least once. Holland is fifth on the odds at 11/1 and they’ve never won before either. That means there are a couple of very good selections for the ‘yes’ here, which pays very well.

Will there be a red card shown in the World Cup Final?

The answer ‘yes’ to this question pays +225, while ‘no’ pays -350. This is a hot button question after Italy’s Marco Materazzi was able to draw a red card on France’s Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 Final after a head butt.

Zidane ended up getting ejected and Italy won in a shootout. That incident, and the very high profile attention it’s received over the last four years, makes a red card very unlikely to happen again.

The World Cup kicks off Friday, but most eyes in this country will be focused on the Saturday matchup between England and USA. Here’s the preview from BroburySports.com.

Get a kick out of winning. You get a 50% Sign-up Bonus up to $500 (Use Promo Code: GOAL50). Note you must make a minimum deposit of $100.

Also note our famous $100,000 Handicapping Contest with a $10,000 guaranteed Prize Pool. Click here for all the details.

The odds for Saturday’s game are England -200 and USA +550. A tie comes in at +280. The over/under for goals is 2.5.

England is 7/1 to win the tournament after opening up at 6/1. That trails only Spain (15/4), Brazil (9/2) and Argentina (13/2). England is just ahead of several other solid European teams like Holland (9/1), Germany (12/1) and Italy (16/1).

England has won the World Cup just once in its famous history. That was 1966. Their highest finish since was fourth place in 1990. They’ve had several crushing losses since then, including losing to Portugal in 2006 on penalty kicks.

David Beckham went out after halftime in that Portugal game due to an injury. He’s out for this tournament as well, failing to become his first countryman to play in four Word Cups.

The team will look to 24-year-old scoring sensation Wayne Rooney. He is one of the favorites (10/1) to win the Top Goal Scorer prop at Brobury. England can beat USA without a big performance from Rooney, but has no shot to win the whole thing without him carrying a big load.

USA (80/1 to win the tourney) made the quarterfinals in 2002 before failing to advance from its opening group in 2006. They had a good showing at the 2009 Confederations Cup. This year, the offense looks farther ahead than the defense.

Midfield star Landon Donovan and goaltender Tim Howard both have Premier League experience and that helps a lot. If several other players step up, then this opening game could be closer than expected, especially considering the pressure on the English side.

These teams are both out of Group C. England is the -333 favorite, followed by USA (+420), Slovenia (+1000) and Algeria (+1600).

This was considered a very favorable setup for England, but USA should advance as well no matter what happens on Saturday.
