Can Andrew Bogut Lead Australia to and Upset of the “Redeem Team”? Can Andrew Bogut Lead Australia to and Upset of the “Redeem Team”?

Wednesday is shaping up to be an exciting day at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, as Jamaica’s Usain Bolt is looking to continue his track dominance in the 200m, while the USA mens’ basketball team will take on Australia in the quarterfinal.

Bolt will compete in the 200m final at 10:20 AM ET, and it looks like he will replicate his record-breaking performance in the 100m. In the qualifiers, Bolt coasted to an easy win by running hard for only half the race. He has phenomenal breakaway speed, and the scary part is that he is only 21 and may not even been near his best. Also, the 200m was Bolt’s specialty after he begged his coaches to let him try the 100m, and that turned out pretty well.

The United States mens’ basketball team will take on Australia after rolling through the preliminary rounds, and they come in as massive 31-point favorites. The Americans have been firing on all cylinders so far, and the resurgence of a healthy Dwayne Wade has a lot to do with that. Wade’s explosiveness is just one more weapon in the USA’s loaded arsenal. The Australians have the Milwaukee Bucks’ Andrew Bogut and Patrick Mills, a star guard with St. Mary’s, but the Americans are far too deep and talented to lose this one. The only thing that can stop the “Redeem Team” in Beijing is itself and a lack of focus.
