Betting on NHL Prop Bets

The online sports book experts have complicated systems in place that are designed to predict who will be appearing in the NHL Stanley Cup Finals from year to year. These systems are based on sophisticated calculations and comprehensive analysis. Very few of those systems predicted that the New Jersey Devils and the Los Angeles Kings would meet in the 2011-2012 Stanley Cup Finals. So the online betting sites go back to the drawing board to see if they can pull up two teams that will meet in the 2012-2013 Stanley Cup Finals. Here are the top contenders.

Pittsburgh Penguins

It is hard to imagine a team that has a healthy Evgeni Malkin and a healthy Sidney Crosby not being a Stanley Cup contender. The problem for the Penguins is its playoff goaltending. Marc-Andre Fleury is spectacular in the regular season, but he has been the reason the Penguins have been eliminated from the last two playoff tournaments. The Penguins made an interesting move in signing Tomas Vokoun from the Capitals to try and inspire Fleury to play better. But neither Vokoun nor Fleury have the ability to sustain the team into a long playoff run. If the Penguins go into the 2012-2013 season with Fleury and Vokoun on the roster, then it will be another early exit for Pittsburgh.

New York Rangers

The best online sports betting sites have to believe that the New York Rangers will use its money and star appeal to attract those two players that the team needs to be a real Cup contender. A power forward and skating defenseman are all that the Rangers need to be the playoff monster that it wants to be. Everyone is quick to blame Henrik Lundqvist for the failure of the team in the 2011-2012 tournament. But Lundqvist was under siege in the Eastern Conference Finals and he needs that one defenseman that can get the puck out of the zone without turning it over. The Rangers are only a couple of players away from pulling off another Stanley Cup championship.

Los Angeles Kings

There is very little, if anything, that the Los Angeles Kings need to do to stay an elite NHL team. The only thing that the Kings need to be mindful of is that goaltender Jonathan Quick is not invincible. The legal online sports betting sites would lose all confidence in the Kings if Quick sustained a long-term injury. Barring an injury to Quick, the Kings is a legitimate playoff powerhouse next season.

Nashville Predators

Despite losing several key players to free agency just prior to the 2011-2012 season, the Predators still made an excellent showing of itself in the playoffs. Pekka Rinne continues to prove that he is an elite goaltender and one of the best in the league. The Predators were building a Stanley Cup contender prior to the loss of key roster players prior to this season. But the Predators have already started to rebuild the team and should be able to come out swinging in 2012-2013.
