The NFL preseason is underway and there are a number of exciting games from Saturday through Monday night.

Saturday is the day of the quarterback. Pittsburgh begins its quest to see who will replace Ben Roethlisberger to start the season, with Byron Leftwich the favorite. They’re 2 ½-point favorites over Detroit.
Arizona begins life without quarterback Kurt Warner. Matt Leinart is on the hot seat with mixed reviews in camp so far. The Cardinals (+1 ½) battle Matt Schaub and Houston.
St. Louis’ Sam Bradford will make his professional debut on Saturday. The Rams (-1 ½) take on Minnesota, who are still living the Brett Favre nightmare. Look for Tarvaris Jackson to have a big game.
Sunday has Indianapolis (+3) taking the field for the first time since losing the Super Bowl. Don’t expect to see much of Peyton Manning against San Francisco.
The big game that everyone wants to see (and bet on) is the Giants (+1 ½) and Jets on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. This is the NFL opening of the New Meadowlands Stadium and these teams are fighting for bragging rights and popularity in the Big Apple.
Jets’ fans are already talking Super Bowl and so is coach Rex Ryan. They’re tied with San Diego at 9/2 to win the AFC. Only Indianapolis (7/2) is ahead of them. However, cornerback Darrelle Revis is in the middle of a nasty contract dispute and the New England Patriots are still the division champs until they get knocked out.
This is going to be an exciting year for the Jets either way. It’s Super Bowl or bust and it begins Monday night.
Expectations for the Giants are not nearly as great. The running game took a step back last year as did the defense. The good news is that Eli Manning is improving each year and the other parts are fixable.
The Giants are a value-driven 12/1 to win the conference. Remember that a surprise team often comes out of the NFC (just like the Giants in 2007).
