Betting on Cowboys Football

Point spread: Dallas -5.5

Over/Under: OFF

The Washington Redskins renew one of the best rivalries in the NFL when they travel to Arlington, Texas for a Monday night showdown with the Dallas Cowboys at Cowboys Stadium. This NFC East clash is set to kick-off at 8:30 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Washington is off to a surprising 2-0 start and actually has the early lead in the division with the other three teams at 1-1. It opened the season with a convincing 28-14 victory over the New York Giants as a 2.5-point home underdog in a game that went ‘over’ the 39.5-point total. Last Sunday, the Redskins held off Arizona 22-21 as 4.5-point home favorites, with the total staying ‘under’ the 44.5-point line.

Rex Grossman continues to solidify his position as this team’s starting quarterback with two workman-like performances that got the job done. His overall numbers are not overly impressive, but he has completed just under 60 percent of his passes for 596 yards and four touchdowns.

Dallas quarterback Tony Romo battled through a broken rib and a puncture in his lung to win back the fans’ support in a gutsy performance last Sunday. After blowing a fourth quarter lead in an opening day loss to the Jets, he directed a late game comeback to pull out a crucial 27-24 overtime win against San Francisco as a three-point road underdog. As of today, he is expected to be ready to go by Monday night, but this remains a fluid situation.

The Cowboys have some additional injuries concerns with Terrence Newman and Felix Jones listed as probable, Dez Bryant listed as questionable, and Miles Austin out until mid-October with a pulled hamstring.

Washington is 5-2 against the spread in its last seven games against the NFC East and the total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of its last nine games overall. Dallas is 7-2-1 ATS in its last 10 games and the total has gone ‘over’ in each of its last nine games.

Washington has won seven of the last nine meetings ATS and is 4-0 ATS in its last four road games against the Cowboys. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of the last five meetings between the two.

The line for this game opened at 5.5, but could shift depending of the final playing status of Romo. If it stays the same or goes higher, stick with the Redskins to keep things close enough to cover.

The Pick: Dallas 23        Washington 20
