NFL Betting – Early Week 3 Picks

by on September 24, 2009

Technically, Week 2 NFL betting is just ending, but it’s never too early to make NFL picks for week 3. Let’s explore some interesting NFL week 3 odds and find some lines we like so far.

Bears (-1.5) over Seahawks

If Matt Hasselbeck can’t play, this spread may expand rapidly. Jay Cutler found a groove against a tough Steeler defense in Week 2 and could carve up the Seahawks, especially if the Bears “D” forces turnovers and keeps the offense on the field.

Packers (-6.5) over Rams

The Pack burned us last week, yeah, but they’ll be angry this week, anxious to carve up a weak defense like the St. Louis. The Rams played well defensively in Week 2 but the Redskins are offensively challenged. The Pack should explode.

Lions (+6.5) over Redskins

It feels crazy to endorse the Lions but let’s remember that the Rams of all teams held Washington to nine points last week. Maybe the Lions can keep pace and at least lose by less than a touchdown?

Giants (-7) over Buccaneers

Tampa’s offense has looked kind of competent while its “D” has been terrible. Weird to see that from a team that prided itself on stellar “D” for the last decade, isn’t it? The Giants should stomp on Tampa and set the Bucs’ better-than-advertised defense back.

Saints (-5.5) over Bills

It’s early enough in the year that the Bills won’t enjoy a cold-weather advantage over a Dome team like New Orleans. Even though Buffalo made New England look normal, the Saints’ offense is a juggernaut. Who else could drop 48 points on the Eagles? Expect the Saints to post more big numbers and be prepared to bet over the total regardless of what the number is. It’s smart betting management to expect lots of points from Drew Brees and company.

NFL picks.
