Offshore sportsbooks are giving the SEC a solid edge in this year’s Sugar Bowl betting, as their schools have taken six of the last seven Sugar Bowls. Alabama will attempt to continue the SEC dominance as Sugar Bowl betting favorites against Utah, while in other NCAA football betting action, Texas are Fiesta Bowl betting favorites against an Ohio State team looking for redemption after two straight embarrassing losses in the BCS title game.
The Mountain West champion Utes (12-0) put up over 37 points a game, good for 15th in the nation, but they will have their hands full with the Crimson Tide (12-1) and their third-ranked defense. The Utes came in 15th in total defense, and they caught a small break when Alabama All-American tackle Andre Smith was suspended for this game for alleged illegal activity with an agent. The Crimson Tide were 22nd in the nation on the ground, but this may be a chance for their underrated passing game to have more of an impact on the game. The Crimson Tide are 9-point Sugar Bowl betting favorites in their first-ever meeting with the Utes.
The Big 12’s Longhorns (11-1) will try to ride the arm of Colt McCoy and the nation’s ninth-ranked offense to a victory as 8-point Fiesta Bowl betting favorites, but they are also solid on defense, coming in 50th. The Buckeyes are just the opposite, finishing eighth in total defense, but only 78th in offense. If it wasn’t for the running exploits of “Beanie” Wells and freshman pivot Terrelle Pryor, the Ohio State offense would be in a world of trouble. The Buckeyes have been thumped in their past two BCS appearances, losing to Florida and LSU in the BCS title game, and a win here would go a long way in redeeming their program in the eyes of online sports betting players. These two have split a pair of meetings in 2005 and 2006, with the road team winning both times.
