The New Orleans Hornets will look to make it two in-a-row over the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers in tonight’s Game 2 of their best-of-seven first round matchup in the Western Conference playoffs. Tip-off is set for 10:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on TNT.

New Orleans finished the regular season with three straight losses but was able to quickly shake off the rust with a stunning 109-100 victory over Los Angeles last Sunday as a 10-point road underdog. The total went well ‘over’ the 182 ½-point line. This was the Hornets first straight-up win over the Lakers since March of last year.

Chris Paul was the difference for New Orleans in Game 1. He finished the night with 33 points, 14 assists, and seven rebounds. He shot a blazing 11-for-18 from the field and recorded four steals. Two other keys for the Hornets were points in the paint (52 vs.34) and their scoring off the bench (39 vs. 21) led by Jarrett Jack’s 15 points.

Los Angeles trailed by as many as 12 points heading into the final minute of the second quarter but cut the lead to nine at the half. The Lakers closed the gap to two at the end of the third but could never turn the corner, eventually losing by nine. It was their worse loss to New Orleans since a 116-105 setback on Jan.6 of 2009.

Kobe Bryant did all he could to keep this game close, scoring a game-high 34 points along with four rebounds and five assists. Ron Artest had a big game, scoring 16 points and pulling down 16 rebounds, but Pau Gasol, the Lakers’ second leading scorer, was held to just eight points. LA outrebounded the Hornets 41-33 and went 26-of-33 from the foul-line, but still came up short.

Everything went right for the New Orleans in Game 1 but do not expect the same results in tonight’s game. Stick with the Lakers to win and easily cover the 11 ½ points after the Hornets clearly got their attention in Game 1.
