NBA Betting – Stars out in full force on Thursday

by Mark Bolyard on January 29, 2009

While most are looking over their Super bowl odds for this Sunday’s big game, there will be no shortage of star power in Thursday’s NBA betting matchups. Cleveland will travel to Orlando in a massive bout between two of the East’s top teams, while a pair of rivals do battle in Phoenix as the Suns host San Antonio.

Cavaliers vs Magic odds

All eyes will be on LeBron James of the Cavaliers and Dwight Howard of the Magic, and for good reason as both will be starting in the All-Star Game. However, this could come down to the supporting casts, and both have been in top form recently. Cleveland’s Mo Williams dropped a career-high 43 points in a win over Sacramento on Tuesday, while on the same night, Orlando’s Mickael Pietrus had 27 points in his return to the lineup from injury. The Magic have won six of the last 10 meetings between these two, and online betting players can expect a playoof-type atmosphere to this NBA betting matchup.

Spurs vs Suns odds

The Suns will be attempting to break a trend between these two rivals, as the home team has lost in each of their two meetings this season. Amare Stoudamire needs to have a big game, as the Spurs’ Tim Duncan will be occupied with a revitalized Shaquille O’Neal. Phoenix’s Steve Nash also has to play better against Tony Parker, who has forced Nash into nine turnovers in their two meetings. You can also bet the Suns will be keeping a close eye on Roger Mason, who has only averaged 9.5 points, but he hit a buzzer-beater in San Antonio’s last trip to Phoenix on Christmas Day.
