NBA Betting – James, Shaq, Kobe all in for Thursday night slate

by on June 19, 2013

Thursday is always a great day for NBA betting players, as TNT’s nationally-televised back-to-back games usually feature four contending teams and a host of stars. This Thursday’s sportsbook schedule is no different, starting with Cleveland’s trip to Houston, where LeBron James and Yao Ming will square off. In the late game, Shaquille O’Neal, Steve Nash and the Phoenix suns take their run-and-gun game to Los Angeles to face Kobe Bryant and the Lakers in a Pacific Division showdown.

Cavaliers vs Rockets odds – 8:00 PM ET

The Rockets have a sparkling 23-6 record at home, meaning they’ll probably be online betting favorites against the Cavaliers. Houston has also won seven of their last 10 meetings against the Cavaliers, but Cleveland downed the Rockets 99-90 at home in December. However, the Rockets had Tracy McGrady in the lineup, and that may have been a bad thing for them. The Rockets are 20-15 with “T-Mac” in the lineup, but 16-6 without him. The Houston star is out for the season with a knee injury, but this allows the rest of the Rockets, particularly Yao, to come into the game. Look for the big man to have a big game, and bet on Houston to win this clash of teams on five-game winning streaks.

Suns vs Lakers odds – 10:30 PM ET

If you like defense, you should probably stay away from this game. Whatever the sportsbook number is for the over/under, take the over, because these two combine to score 215.4 points a game. These two have also went over the posted total in seven of their last 10 meetings, of which the Lakers have won six. Both teams are missing big men, as Los Angeles’ Andrew Bynum and Phoenix’s Amare Stoudemire could be done for the season. The Lakers will be forced to double Shaquille O’Neal, who won three rings with the Lakers, as he is far too big for Pau Gasol on his own. Meanwhile, the Suns will try to deal with Kobe Bryant, but in two games against Phoenix, the reigning MVP has averaged only 21.0 points. However, both games ended in wins, and at home, the Lakers are just far too good. If you’re betting on sports, make the Lakers your play on Thursday.
