NASCAR Sprint Cup Preview: Goody's Fast Pain Relief 500 Preview

by Dirty on March 24, 2010

Jimmie Johnson will be looking to pick up his fourth victory of the season on Sunday when he takes to the track at Martinsville Speedway for the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500.

Johnson earned his third win of the year over the weekend, taking the checkered flag in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch followed Johnson across the finish line at Bristol, while Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth rounded out the day’s Top 5 drivers.

Carl Edwards, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jamie McMurray, Kyle Busch, and Jeff Burton made up the rest of the Top 10 in the Food City 500. Kevin Harvick finished just below that top tier in 11th place at Bristol.

Harvick, though, still holds down top spot in the driver standings after five races; he’s one point up on Kenseth. Johnson, despite his three wins, is 14 points behind in third place in the current standings.

Johnson won the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 last season, and he’s taken the checkered flag in five of the past seven races at Martinsville Speedway. Denny Hamlin won at Martinsville last October and in March 2008.

Jeff Gordon, who was 14th at Bristol, has seven career Cup wins at Martinsville on his resume, most recently in 2005. Stewart and Mark Martin have each won twice on the track, while Kurt Busch and Burton have one win apiece.

After racing at Martinsville Speedway the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will move on to Phoenix International Raceway for the Subway Fresh Fit 600 on Saturday, April 10. The other two events on the April calendar will then take place at Texas and Talladega.
