Coca Cola 600 Preview – After a one-week All-Star break the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will resume their points race on Sunday, May 30 in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Kyle Busch won the series’ last points event, the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway on May 16. Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, and David Reutimann made up the rest of the Top 5 at that race.

Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart, and Joey Logano also turned in Top-10 results at Dover, with Jeff Gordon just behind that group in 11th place. Jimmie Johnson was caught speeding on pit road late in the race and ended up in 16th.

Harvick holds a 69-point lead on Busch in the driver standings after 12 races, with Kenseth 126 points back in third place. Johnson (131 points behind Harvick) and Hamlin (150 points behind Harvick) round out the Top 5.

Reutimann won the Coca-Cola 600 last season, while Johnson took the checkered flag at the NASCAR Banking 500 at Charlotte back in October. Johnson also picked up five Cup victories at Charlotte between 2003 and 2005.

Gordon has five career Cup wins at Charlotte, most recently in 2007, while Mark Martin has won four times on the track. Burton and Kasey Kahne each have three career Charlotte victories, while Kenseth and Stewart have each won there once.

After finishing up at Charlotte the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will move on to Pocono Raceway for the Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 on June 6. Other June races will then be held at Michigan, Sonoma, and Loudon.
