The drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will hit the track at Michigan International Speedway for their next race, the Carfax 400, on Sunday afternoon.
Juan Montoya won the series’ last event, the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Watkins Glen road course. Kurt Busch, Marcos Ambrose, A.J. Allmendinger, and Carl Edwards rounded out the Top 5 at that race.
Jamie McMurray, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Jeff Burton, and Jeff Gordon also picked up Top-10 results at Watkins Glen.
Kevin Harvick ended up in 11th place at Watkins Glen, and he has a 185-point lead on Gordon atop the driver standings after 22 events. Burton, Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Stewart, Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, and Mark Martin are also in Chase spots heading into Michigan.
Hamlin won at Michigan back in June, while Brian Vickers and Martin won the races on the track last season. Edwards and Dale Earnhardt Jr. visited victory lane at Michigan back in 2008.
Martin has five career Cup wins at Michigan on his resume, while Edwards, Gordon, Biffle, Kenseth, Kurt Busch, and Ryan Newman have two each. Stewart and Kasey Kahne have each taken the checkered flag at Michigan once.
After racing at Michigan the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will move on to Bristol Motor Speedway for Irwin Tools Race Night on August 21. The pre-Chase schedule then ends with races at Atlanta (September 5) and Richmond (September 11).
