The drivers of NASCAR will continue the Chase for the Sprint Cup on Sunday afternoon in the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway.
Clint Bowyer won the first race of the Chase over the weekend, taking the checkered flag in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire. Denny Hamlin was second at that event, while Jamie McMurray was third, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kevin Harvick rounded out the Top 5.
Jeff Gordon, David Reutimann, Ryan Newman, Kyle Busch, and Sam Hornish Jr. also picked up Top-10 results at New Hampshire. Carl Edwards was 11th, Kurt Busch was 13th, Jeff Burton was 15th, Greg Biffle was 17th, Matt Kenseth was 23rd, Tony Stewart was 24th, and Jimmie Johnson was 25th.
Bowyer, though, was hit with a 150-point penalty for failing the post-race inspection, and he sits in 12th place in the standings. Hamlin leads by 45 points on Harvick heading into the second race of the Chase, with Kyle Busch, Gordon, Kurt Busch, Johnson, Edwards, Biffle, Burton, Stewart, and Kenseth following behind.
Kyle Busch won the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover back in May, while Johnson took the checkered flag in both Dover events in 2009. Johnson has five career Cup wins on the track, and Kyle Busch also won the Best Buy 400 there in 2008.
Gordon and Mark Martin each have four career Cup wins at Dover, while Ryan Newman has three, and both Biffle and Stewart have two. Edwards, Kenseth, Burton, Earnhardt Jr., and Martin Truex Jr. have all won once at Dover.
After racing at Dover the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will move on to Kansas Speedway for the Price Chopper 400. Subsequent Chase events will then be held at Auto Club, Charlotte, Martinsville, Talladega, Texas, Phoenix, and Homestead-Miami.
