Point spread: San Diego -3.5

Over/Under: 44

In a crucial AFC West showdown, the San Diego Chargers invade Arrowhead Stadium to tangle with the Kansas City Chiefs in front of a prime-time audience on Monday Night Football. The kick-off is set for 8:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

As expected, San Diego has taken the early lead in the division at 4-2 straight-up, but it has not done it with any kind of authority with a 2-4 record against the spread. It barely got by Minnesota, Miami, and Denver, who are a combined 3-16 on the year. It did beat the Chiefs 20-17 in Week 3, but came nowhere close to covering as a 14.5-point home favorite. The total has gone 3-3 in its first six games.

The Chargers still boast a potent offense that is ranked eighth overall, but have struggled to put points on the board at times. Philip Rivers is completing close to 65 percent of his passes, but has been picked-off nine times verse just seven touchdown throws.

Kansas City was left for dead after a 0-3 start in which it was outscored 109-27, but actually showed some signs of life in the three-point loss to the Chargers. It put itself back in the AFC West race with three straight victories in which it outscored its opponents 78-41.

The Chiefs are now 3-3 SU and 4-2 against the spread. They played their best game of the year just a week ago with a 28-0 shutout of Oakland as 3.5-point road underdogs. Their defense posted six interceptions and returned two for scores. The total stayed well ‘under’ the 41.5-point line in this game to go 3-3 on the year.

San Diego is 2-5-1 ATS in its last eight games overall and the total has gone ‘over’ in five of its last seven games against the AFC.

Kansas City is 4-0 ATS in its last four games and the total has stayed ‘under’ in its last five games against the AFC West.

Head-to-head, the Chargers are 3-4 ATS in the last seven games overall and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games at Arrowhead. The total has stayed ‘under’ in three of the last five meetings overall.

The Chiefs have closed the early season gap with San Diego and are primed to avenge the earlier loss. Take Kansas City to win this game straight-up to further muddy the waters in the AFC West.

The Pick: Kansas City 24     San Diego 23
