The total for this game is 47 ½-points, the highest in the league this week. ESPN will have the broadcast at 8:30 pm ET.
Miami (2-1 SU, 1-2 ATS) is getting 76 percent of the betting support even after a 31-23 home loss to the NY Jets last Sunday night. Miami actually led in time of possession 33-27, but it didn’t translate on the scoreboard. The game dampened a good Dolphins start with road wins at Buffalo and Minnesota.
Miami believes they can run and pass against the young New England defense (ranked 27th in the NFL in total yards). They’ve had success using the ‘wildcat’ offense against the Patriots in the past and will use it again.
New England (2-1 SU 1-2 ATS) continues to struggle on the road. Their one loss this season was at the Jets (28-14), with New York scoring 21 unanswered points to end the game. The Pats were also favorites for that contest (-3).
The Patriots only won one true road game last year (at Buffalo). Their other ‘road’ win was in London against Tampa Bay. Tom Brady hates to play in Miami. He’s only 3-5 SU in his eight career starts there.
New England still has an explosive offense and their 30 PPG leads the NFL. However, the defense is having some growing pains, especially at cornerback. Chad Henne threw for 335 yards against them at home last year and should have another big day with Brandon Marshall leading the way.
Running back Fred Taylor is out for New England. They’re thin at the position after trading Laurence Maroney to Denver. The relatively unknown BenJarvus Green-Ellis will get the majority of the carries, but expect Brady to throw a lot.
The total is getting a lot of action this week. A big 87 percent like the ‘over,’ which has gone 3-0 for the Pats this year.
New England is just 2-6 ATS in its last eight games against the AFC East. Conversely, Miami is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 division games.
Can the Patriots finally get a big road win?
