Betting on Pirates Baseball

Good luck finding a online MLB betting player that wagered on Pittsburgh to be leading the National League Central heading into the second half of the season, but here the Pirates are, atop the Central. They’ll have to show they can hang on to the lead, starting with Friday’s game against Milwaukee to begin a three-game weekend set.

Pirates Brewers Odds – Friday, 8:10 PM ET

James MacDonald (9-3, 2.37) may be the biggest surprise on this team full of surprises, and he ended the first half with a 10-strikeout effort to earn his fourth straight win in a 3-1 victory at home against San Francisco, scattering a run on four hits over seven innings. MacDonald also didn’t walk a batter and  legal online sports betting sharps wouldn’t have called MacDonald to dominate the way he has; only once in his last 10 starts has he given up more than three earned runs in a start. The 27-year-old has already beaten the Brewers in 2011 to take his record to 1-2 in seven games (three starts) against them with a 4.84 ERA, and that win came in Miller Park, where he is 1-2 in five games (three starts) with an ERA of 6.00.

Zack Greinke (9-3, 3.32) had a strange end to the first half as he was snubbed for the All-Star Game, then was ejected after four pitches in his next start, and then he took to the mound the next day, lasting just three innings in a 5-3 win in Houston, although he took the no-decision by allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. Some online sports book players think that Greinke was left off the team as Tony La Russa was the former manager in St. Louis, one of Milwaukee’s biggest rivals. The 28-year-old is 4-1 in five career starts against the Pirates despite an ERA of 5.17, and at home he has been brilliant with a 4-0 mark in seven starts and an ERA of 1.89.

Milwaukee should be slight favorites if you’re going to bet on sports, but even though the Pirates are only 3-7 in their last 10 at Miller Park, they took two of three there earlier this season and they have shown that they’re not afraid of anyone. However, the second half will be different as teams are no longer overlooking them and they’re going to get the best of everyone they face, including Greinke, who has to be miffed about how the first half ended and remember, he is a former Cy Young winner. The smart money is on Milwaukee if you’re doing some MLB betting online.
