With NFL odds posted on all the futures, the Super Bowl odds, regular season win totals and division favorites are the buzz around the water cooler but those are a month away. Baseball gets the spotlight for now as interleague action is over and regular, old-fashioned baseball is back.
The New York Yankees are 11-games over .500, which ties their high water mark this year. They’ll look to build on it as the Seattle Mariners make the cross-country trip to the Bronx to face the Yankees, who are getting healthier.

Brandon Morrow (0-3, 5.64 ERA) vs Joba Chamberlain (4-2, 3.81 ERA)
Baseball Lines: Yankees -260
The New York Yankees are getting healthier, which could mean bad news for a lot of teams in the MLB including the Mariners tonight.
Johnny Damon is expected to be back tonight after he missed a couple of games due to illness and Hideki Matsui should be back as the designated hitter after missing nine straight games due to games in the National League (interleague play).
The Mariners will send Brandon Morrow to the mound as the reliever is now a converted starter. He’s been a bit better in that role after posting an ERA of 6.38 in 16 outings as a reliever.
Morrow has made three starts and opponents are batting a healthy .304 against him. He’s lasted just 12 innings in those three starts.
Chamberlain has been much more effective than Morrow as a starter this year, posting a solid 3.82 ERA over 14 starts.
But a startling note is his home-away splits, which might make the Mariners a decent play tonight.
Chamberlain is 4-0 with a 2.74 ERA on the road but is 0-2 with a 5.18 ERA at home. The difference has been his WHIP, which is 1.55 on the road but his WHIP is 1.33 on the road.
While Morrow has struggled as a starter, he has made one good start against the Yankees in the past. In September last year, Morrow gave up just one earned run in 7.1 innings pitched against the Yankees en route to a 3-1 win.
Given the splits, there’s some value with the Mariners tonight.
