March Madness Betting – Tiger showdown in the desert

by BetOnline.com on August 17, 2013

March Madness betting players will see two of the most dominating teams in the country go head-to-head in the West region on Thursday, as Memphis and Missouri ranked in the national top five for scoring margin. Memphis is an online betting favorite against Missouri, and these two exciting teams will battle it out to see who is the best of the Tigers in Glendale, AZ.

Missouri vs Memphis odds – Thursday, March 27, 9:37 PM ET

No.3 Missouri has covered both of their March Madness betting spreads, but it didn’t come easy in their second-round win over Marquette. The Tigers were pounded on the boards 38-27, and they went to the foul line 20 times, making 14, while Marquette was 28-of-33. Leo Lyons has put up 21.5 points over the first two games for the Tigers, while Kim English has provided a spark off the bench with 30 points in two games, including 17 and a pair of clutch free throws against Marquette.

Top-seeded Memphis needed a monster performance from their own sixth man to survive a scare from Cal.State-Northridge in the first round, as Roburt Sallie caught fire with ten treys en route to 35 points. The win against Maryland was more like the Memphis that March Madness betting players have seen, as they harassed the Terrapins with their full-court press during a 19-point win. Tyreke Evans led a balanced attack with 19 points as the Tigers shot 58.5% from the field. Memphis came into the Tournament as No.1 team in terms of opposition field-goal percentage, and after the first half of the CSNU game, the Tigers have gotten their act together, which bodes well for sportsbook players who are backing Memphis.

Memphis has a 4.5-point spread according to March Madness odds, and these two met back in 2002 and 2003, with the home team winning in each meeting. This will be played a frantic pace, but Memphis will want to slow the game down to take advantage of their size occasionally. Also, it doesn’t appear that Missouri has anyone who can match up with Evans on the defensive end of the floor, and the talented freshman has been the key to Memphis’ season, as they haven’t lost since moving him to the point early in the season. Defense usually wins out, and Memphis is far better on that end than Missouri. Bet on Memphis to reach their fourth straight Elite Eight, while covering their March Madness betting spread.
