Bet on Uncle Mo’s chances to win the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic with Bodog!

30:

Does Uncle Mo have what it takes to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Churchill Downs? Bet on the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic with the Bodog Racebook!

45:

Race favorite Uncle Mo will break from outside post 12 in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic. Will his speedy style be enough to win the $5M race? Get great horse racing odds on Uncle Mo in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic at the Bodog Racebook.

100:

Now that the post positions for Saturday’ Breeders’ Cup Classic have been drawn, the strategizing begins! Uncle Mo will be breaking from outside post 12, which will favor his speedy style. Meanwhile, Havre de Grace will be contending with traffic in post 10 and will need a good break to ensure she stays within stalking distance of the leaders going into the first turn. Expected pacesetter Game On Dude will benefit from his advantageous draw of post 8 while third-choice Flat Out may have to contend with traffic from inside post 2. Find great horse racing odds on the 2011 Breeders’ Cup at Bodog!

150:

As some of the top contenders for Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic turned in their final works before the race, one final factor was left to contend with: the post position draw. Uncle Mo, the race favorite, will have to contend with outside post 12 of 13 – but his speed will serve him well going into the first turn. Havre de Grace, who is attempting to become the second female horse to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, will be contending with post 10. Not known as a particularly quick starter, Havre de Grace will depend on jockey Ramon Dominguez to craft the perfect early trip. Expected pacesetter Game On Dude will break from post 8, which suits his front running style. And having to contend with extreme inside post 1 is longshot Prayer for Relief, whose odds do not improve with that unlucky draw. Make your 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic wagers at the Bodog Racebook!

200:

Now that the post positions for the $5M Breeders’ Cup Classic have been drawn, the strategizing now begins! What do these starting positions mean for the favorites and the longshots? Uncle Mo, the race’s first choice, will have to contend with outside post 12 of 13 – but his speed will serve him well going into the first turn. Uncle Mo will also be looking to become the first horse in Breeders’ Cup history to win a Breeders’ Cup race the year after winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Bet on Uncle Mo’s 2011 Breeders’ Cup odds at the Bodog Racebook!

Havre de Grace, who is attempting to become the second female horse to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, will be contending with post 10. Not known as a particularly quick starter, Havre de Grace will depend on jockey Ramon Dominguez to steer clear of traffic troubles early on. Expected pacesetter Game On Dude will break from post 8, which suits his frontrunning style. And breaking from extreme inside post 1 is longshot Prayer for Relief, whose odds of winning do not improve with that unlucky draw. Bet on the Breeders’ Cup Classic with the Bodog Racebook!

Will Havre de Grace win the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic? Bet on the Breeders’ Cup with Bodog!

30:

It’s Havre de Grace versus Uncle Mo in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic. Who is your pick to win? Make all your 2011 Breeders’ Cup wagers with Bodog!

45:

The 2011 Breeders’ Cup World Championships is here! Think Havre de Grace has what it takes to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic? Or will Uncle Mo complete his comeback from injury with another victory? Breeders’ Cup horse betting is easy with the Bodog Racebook!

100:

Havre de Grace is one of the top contenders for the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic. Like Zenyatta in 2009 and 2010, she is the lone female horse in a deep, talented field that includes Kelso Handicap winner Uncle Mo and Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes victor Flat Out. But Havre de Grace has defeated male horses before – in the Woodward Stakes in September. And with just one runner-up loss marring an otherwise perfect record this year, Havre de Grace will be the horse to beat. Bet on Havre de Grace to win the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic with Bodog!

150:

This year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic features a standout field. Much of the focus has been on 5-year-old mare Havre de Grace – and for good reason, with her victory against male horses in the Woodward Stakes and her 6-5-1-0 record this season. Another contender to keep an eye on is Uncle Mo, who was a top pick for this year’s Kentucky Derby – before his untimely injury. Since his return, however, he has been outstanding. Whether he has the stamina to handle the 1 ¼ mile distance is the big question. European invader So You Think will be racing on a dirt track for the first time. He will also be racing for the third time in just over a month. But this 5-year-old merits a look off his excellent season in Europe. So who do you like for the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic? Get great Breeders’ Cup odds with the Bodog Racebook!

200:

This year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic features a standout field. Havre de Grace is hoping to cap off a sensational season: She defeated male horses in the Woodward Stakes (G1) at Saratoga. On Oct. 1, she won her second grade 1 race: the Beldame Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park. Get your Breeders’ Cup odds on Havre de Grace at the Bodog Racebook!

Another strong contender is Uncle Mo, who was pegged as a top contender for this year’s Kentucky Derby. But illness forced him onto the sidelines for nearly four months. In his latest outing, Uncle Mo showed he has truly returned to his pre-injury form with a powerful victory in the Kelso Handicap (G2) at Belmont Park Oct. 1. But can he handle the 1 ¼ mile distance of the Classic? Find all your Breeders’ Cup betting odds on Uncle Mo at the Bodog Racebook.

Flat Out also deserves a look after a breakout year. His first grade 1 win came at Belmont Park in the Jockey Club Gold Cup Oct. 1. But he was defeated by Havre de Grace in the Woodward Stakes. Still, the Charles Dickey trainee has been working well at Churchill Downs. Like Flat Out’s chances? Bet on the Breeders’ Cup with Bodog!

One set will talk about the virtues and benefits of betting the Breeders Cup at Bodog ( lines, props)

15:

Get all your 2011 Breeders’ Cup betting odds at the Bodog Racebook!

30:

Think Havre de Grace will win at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5? You can bet on Havre de Grace’s odds to win the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic and more at the Bodog Racebook!

45:

Think you know who will win this year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic? Will you choose a favorite like Havre de Grace or Uncle Mo? Or will you pick a longshot like Drosselmeyer? Bodog has great horse racing odds for the 2011 Breeders’ Cup!

The 2010 Breeders’ Cup returns to famed Churchill Downs on Nov. 5 and 6 and BroburySports.com wants to show you why it’s called the richest two days in sports!

Need some free money for the Breeders’ Cup? Then start by clicking here and getting up to $500.00!

This two day event features 14 races in all, culminating in the $5,000,000 Classic on Saturday. There is $26 Million in prize money overall.

Zenyatta is the heavy favorite and is creating worldwide buzz. She is the defending champion of this race (the first female to win the Classic) and is 19-0 all-time. She will be running from the number eight post.

This will be the stiffest field Zenyatta has ever faced. She has also run most of her races on synthetic surfaces in California. She has only raced twice on dirt before, which is the case at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby.

The six-year-old mare has already made history and she’s likely not done after this. Still, this is one race you don’t want to miss.

A quick look at the rest of the competition shows Lookin at Lucky (+250) next. The 2010 Preakness winner paid $6.80 to win that race and will have the #12 post on Saturday.

There is not considered much difference between Lookin at Lucky and the next two horses on the odds-list.

Blame (+350) is the third choice by the odds and will go from the fifth post. He’s won his last three races at Churchill Downs. He had a five-race winning streak before finishing second at the Jockey Club Gold Cup.

Quality Road (+400) is the last of the favorites (under +1000). He’s won four of five starts this year, but drew the inside post, which may be unfortunate for his backers.

The Breeders’ Cup Classic is the highlight of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships and will be held this year on Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs in Lexington, Ky. This year is especially exciting as undefeated Zenyatta is scheduled to defend her title. Zenyatta, a 5-year-old mare trained by John Shirreffs, is one of the Breeders’ Cup Classic’s top contenders. Last year, she became the first female horse to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and did so with a thrilling last-to-first stretch run. Even more incredible is Zenyatta’s streak of 19 straight wins; one more victory and she will break the North American record for most consecutive wins.

Does any horse have what it takes to defeat Zenyatta? The field for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic is full of talent. Blame, a 4-year-old colt trained by Al Stall, Jr., has won five of his last six races and is one of the favorites for an upset. Also coming into the race strongly is Musket Man, a 4-year-old Derek Ryan trainee, who hasn’t finished worse than third all year. Todd Pletcher’s Quality Road is a 4-year-old speedster who has won four of five races in 2010. And don’t forget about 3-year-old Lookin at Lucky, who won the Triple Crown’s Preakness Stakes this summer under trainer Bob Baffert. But Zenyatta has been untouchable throughout her storied career and will be the clear favorite going into the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Do you dare bet against Zenyatta? Now you can – risk free! Just make a wager on any other horse to win the coveted Breeders’ Cup Classic title. And if Zenyatta wins her historic 20th straight race, you’ll receive a bonus for the amount of your wager up to $20! Don’t miss out on your chance to make a risk-free wager against Zenyatta – bet on the Breeders’ Cup with the Bodog Racebook.

Monmouth Park’s United Nation Handicap has a field of 9 going 1 3/8 miles on the turf at the Jersey Shore:

#7 Presious Passion is a solid choice to win this one as he just came off a winner by a nose on the same turf last month at 1 1/8 miles. No worse than a second place finish all year certainly earns respect of the betting public and Trujillo has been aboard for that entire run. He will also be carrying a couple of pounds less than those recent races and should be able to pull out another big time speed figure like the 101 in two of his last three races. Presious Passion could go off at less than the morning line of 9-2 odds, but I feel this is still enough value to take him.

#2 Strike A Deal has tossed in a couple of clunkers lately but at 8-1 odds is worth including among my top three choices here. This horse finished in 2nd place when running in last year’s United Nations Handicap when the turf was yielding and should be just as competitive in this one. This will be the third race after a long layoff and as the saying goes – third time could be the charm here. It is all just a question of regaining form from the past and at 8-1 or higher, I will take the chance that it happens.

#9 Better Talk Now has not had a victory recently but has a lot of experience in this annual race and just hit the board in the Manhattan Handicap at Belmont Park going 1 ¼ miles on the turf. At Belmont, Better Talk Now hit his highest speed figure of 101 since nearly a year ago showing the kind of form that got him in second and third place finishes last summer. Despite having the worst post in the race, this could be a more favorable spot here and should be able to finish in the money again with a nice closing punch.

Belmont Park’s Suburban Handicap is 1 ¼ miles on the dirt and a field of 10 hit the track for this one:

#2 Dry Martini has Edgar Prado aboard and comes off a solid effort two months ago winning at 1 1/8 miles here at Belmont. Although this horse has not hit a 100 or higher for a speed figure as others in the race have, I feel this is a nice choice at 6-1 morning line odds for trainer Barclay Tagg. A two month layoff might concern some, but having a good trainer makes up for that. Dry Martini has had a consistent closing kick in lots of recent races and with Prado aboard, he will know when to make his move for the winner’s circle here.

#1 Finallymadeit is my biggest longshot choice of the day at 20-1 morning line odds. Although fading badly in the Stephen Foster Handicap last month, this horse has won two of his last four races with both being long distances. Back in May, a victory in the Memorial Day Handicap garnered a wire to wire 104 speed figure. 116 pounds will also be the lowest weight that Finallymadeit has had to carry all year. Although not the most consistent horse of the bunch, at 20-1 odds I certainly feel there is more than enough there to take a chance for the big payday.

#8 Cool Coal Man has a strong trainer-jockey combination here with Nick Zito and John Velazquez making him worth taking a serious look at. With this horse’s last race being a strong five length win at 1 1/16 miles, the odds will not be the highest here but the morning line of 6-1 is still an overlay in my book. Prior to that victory, two solid second place finishes occurred for Cool Coal Man – including one with Velazquez aboard. Speed figures of 103 and 106 led this horse to victory twice this year and the right trip can make it happen again on Saturday.

The Firecracker Handicap at Churchill Downs is a one mile turf race with a field of 8:

#1 Inca King is my top choice here and some good value at an 8-1 morning line. A beaten favorite in his last two races, trainer Steven Asmussen is still stepping on the gas pedal here and is hoping for a victory like last year when Inca King stayed in front wire to wire on the Churchill turf at 1 1/16 miles. This horse likes the turf at Churchill as he has the third most starts on the surface and track, including a total of three victories. Inca King will also be carrying five pounds less than his last two races and eight pounds less than the favorite, Thorn Song.

#5 Mr. Sidney had a horrible race on the dirt at Belmont last month, but is back on the turf in this one looking for a score. Kent Desormeaux has enjoyed three recent victories aboard Mr. Sidney and could be finding the winner’s circle here again. Trainer Bill Mott has tried to keep the competition level fairly high for this horse and looks to repeat the one mile turf win he produced at Keeneland in the Maker’s Mark here on Saturday. Although the 4-1 odds here are low enough to consider passing, I feel it is a good enough price for me in a smaller 8 horse field like this and to back Mr. Sidney at the betting windows among my top three choices in the Firecracker.

#6 Passager has had three straight speed figures of 100 and is a force to be reckoned with here despite not having won a race yet this year. This horse was a strong contender when running in several races over in France and may finally have the right spot for a victory in the US since changing continents in February. In the Maker’s Mark at Keeneland, only Mr. Sidney was able to beat Passager and this rematch should find both of them hitting the board once again. Passager has also not had great trips in several recent races and has to go somewhat wide on several occasions, but at a morning line of 8-1 odds, I will take the chance a good one comes here.

I hope everyone on GAMBLINGIQ has a great July 4 weekend! Enjoy all of the food, fireworks, and fun at the betting windows!

Many of the horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby should be able to participate, but much of the sportsbook attention has gone to a filly that is getting her chance to run with the boys.

Mine That Bird, coming off an amazing longshot win at the Kentucky Derby, will continue his quest to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1970 to win the Triple Crown, but it was uncertain whether his owners wanted him to run. However, he is in the field, and he won’t be a darkhorse after he romped to an almost seven-length victory over Pioneer of the Nile. However, he won’t be ridden by Calvin Borel this time around.

Borel will navigate Rachel Alexandra at Pimlico, but it’s not like he is unfamiliar with the horse. Borel rode the filly to a dominant win at the Kentucky Oaks as they steamrolled the field by an amazing 20 lengths. As a two-year-old, Rachel Alexandra had three wins and two runners-up in six races, and she’s been even better as a three-year-old, as three of her five wins have come by eight lengths or more, all with Borel at the helm.

The rest field features Pioneer of the Nile and Musket Man, who finished second and third to Mine That Bird at the Kentucky Derby, as well as Big Drama, Flying Private, General Quarters, Papa Clem, Take The Points, Tone It Down, Luv Gov and Terrain. The most interesting horse to watch, outside of Mine That Bird and Rachel Alexandra could be Friesen Fire, who took over the status of favorite at the Kentucky Derby after I Want Revenge was scratched the morning of the race. Friesen Fire started from the No.6 position, but never looked comfortable at muddy Churchill Downs, and he stumbled to an 18th-place finish out of 19 horses.

Rachel Alexander doesn’t have history on her side, as a filly hasn’t won the Preakness since Nellie Morse did it way back in 1924. But after destroying the competition so far, Rachel Alexandra has at least earned some consideration towards her Preakness odds.

The horse racing odds and the potential payoffs can be enormous but the risks also are substantial, making Kentucky Derby future book betting on the 134th running of the mile-and-a-quarter classic at Churchill Downs, May 3, a gambling pursuit not doctor-recommended for cardiac patients.

Crusty horse racing veterans recall with regret the 1962 Kentucky Derby future book, at that time called the “winter book,” when Sir Gaylord, who some obtained at odds of 20/1 or more after a solid but less than overwhelming 2-year-old campaign, was the 3/5 winter book choice a day before the Run for the Roses. But Sir Gaylord, who eight years later would be joined at Meadow Stud by a precocious half-brother named Secretariat, suffered a hairline fracture of the sesamoid bone and was retired before the race, having won 10 of 18 lifetime starts. Those who had gleefully taken odds of 20/1 or more on a 3/5 shot could only watch in wagering horror as Decidedly, a colt who Sir Gaylord had beaten in the Everglades Stakes weeks earlier, won the 1962 Kentucky Derby.

Of course, such horse racing setbacks, while cruel and disappointing, have done little to dissuade bettors from pursuing their wagering dreams. In fact, Kentucky Derby futures, which date back to at least 1897 when, in a Jan. 28 article, The New York Times reported that the winter book oddsmaker Turf Exchange had opened Typhoon II as the 6/1 favorite in a field of 95 eligible horses, have become an even more popular betting option for serious horseplayers.

For example, many sportsbooks offer odds on over 400 horses. With that many 3-year-olds, some horses are listed at odds of 500/1 or more. Still, the vigorish is substantial and, as in the Sir Gaylord example, if your choice does not make it to the race, as all but a maximum of 20 horses foaled in 2005 will do, you lose.

With that caveat, bettors still looking to snare a potential contender at overlay odds know now is the time when most 3-year-olds begin their preparation for the first Saturday in May.

Any list of Derby eligible horses starts with War Pass, the undefeated 2-year-old champion of a year ago who was scheduled to make his first start of his 3-year-old campaign in Florida in late February. Given a pedigree that some plasma pundits claim lacks stamina, bettors may want to avoid a short price on War Pass, who is trained by Nick Zito, a two-time winner of the Kentucky Derby.

Another top contender is Pyro, a recent winner of the Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds. But bettors may not want single-digit odds on a colt who was beaten three straight races a year ago by War Pass. Pyro is trained by Steve Asmussen, the conditioner of 2007 Horse of the Year, Curlin.

Other 3-year-olds drawing attention (and dollars) are Court Vision, Colonel John and El Gato Malo. Court Vision won the Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct in November and also is looking for a late February start in Florida. Colonel John and El Gato Malo are California based, meaning they’ve been running on synthetic surfaces, cause for concern, perhaps, given that Churchill Downs offers a traditional dirt track.

Anak Nakal, the winner of the Kentucky Jockey Club, and Cool Coal Man, an allowance winner at Gulfstream, join top stable mate War Pass as contenders from the Zito barn.

Eclipse Award winning trainer Todd Pletcher, who had five colts entered in last year’s 20-horse Kentucky Derby field, has at least a couple of strong contenders for this year’s running. The best may be Monba, a so-called “wiseguy” future book selection that several shrewd bettors seem to admire. Another Pletcher trainee is Cowboy Cal, who might be better suited to run on the grass.

There are two theories for Kentucky Derby future book betting. One is to bet early, taking big prices on developing horses. It’s risky but the rewards can be substantial. The more conservative approach is to at least wait until the horses have raced once or twice, and then take a stab.

Whatever horse racing approach you take, Kentucky Derby future book betting definitely is not for the faint of heart.

The Kentucky Derby always poses sports betting risks, especially now, months before the running of America’s most esteemed horse race. But there’s also the chance for a robust reward if you can place a future book bet on the thoroughbred that will be draped in a garland of red roses in the Churchill Downs winners circle on the first Saturday in May.

Once called the “winter book,” Kentucky Derby futures have been around for decades, offering prospective bettors huge odds at enormous danger. The concern is that your horse never makes it into the starting gate. If that happens, there’s no refund; you lose. But if you can identify a good horse early in the process, say in January, February or March, you still might be able to get 100/1 or more on a 3-year-old that returns considerably less than that on Derby day.

That certainly was the case in 1988 when Winning Colors, who, largely because of her gender, was dismissed at future book odds of 100/1. She won the Run for the Roses, returning a mere $8.80 on Derby day.

Ill-fated Barbaro, who was denied the chance to demonstrate the full scope of his championship potential, wound up paying $14.20 on the day of the 2006 Derby, an attractive price given the ease (a 6 1/2-length triumph), of his victory, but a distant whinny from the 30/1 or so odds being offered in many Nevada racebooks and at sports betting sites around the globe at this time a year ago.

Long a staple of race books, the Kentucky Derby future book expanded nine years ago when the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW), a pari-mutuel pool run out of Churchill Downs but offered elsewhere as well, joined the betting fray.

The most recent KDFW pool concluded after four days of betting on Feb. 11. Pool No. 2 will be conducted March 8-11 and the final pool will be run April 12-15. Only 23 individual horses were listed (as opposed to hundreds at most racebooks and sportsbook outlets) in the first pool so it’s not surprising that the mutuel field (all 3-year-olds not among the 23 named thoroughbreds) closed as the favorite at odds of 5/2.

Nobiz Like Shobiz, winner of the Holy Bull Stakes in early February at Gulfstream Park, closed as the individual 8/1 second choice in a pool that drew about $500,000 in wagers. Street Sense, the winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, and Hard Spun, who was bet down from a 20/1 morning line, each closed at 10/1. Ravel, who won the Sham Stakes, was next in line at 11/1.

What most separates the Kentucky Derby Future Wager from those posted in racebooks and at sportsbook outlets is the option of the field wager. Interestingly, in eight years of Pool 1 wagering, 184 individuals have been named but only 71 of those reached the Kentucky Derby starting gate and only five of them won. Three others, Charismatic, War Emblem and Funny Cide, were members of the Pool 1 mutual field and thus paid way less than they did on Derby Day, let alone their early hefty prices in casino (standard and virtual) future books.

So, given the smaller prices, should a bettor avoid the KDFW and stick with a casino based future book that lists more horses at larger odds?

Not necessarily.

Because the KDFW starts anew with its second and third pools, horses left out of the first pool and lumped into the mutual field sometimes emerge as separate entities in Pool 2 or Pool 3. That was the case with both Giacomo and Funny Cide, who each were offered at more than 50/1 in Pool 3 just three weeks before their successful Kentucky Derby runs.

The above Pool 3 example is in contradiction to the widely held (and mostly correct) view that the longer you dither, the shorter the price you’ll get, especially on a horse that demonstrates potential, as was the case with both Giacomo and Funny Cide.

Thus the shrewd player will view the KDFW not as an alternative to more conventional future book wagers but as another opportunity. Rather than an “either-or” situation, the savvy bettor will study both options, looking for the best way to bet on the Kentucky Derby.
