Cincinnati is a 2 ½-point favorite with the close proximity advantage to Canton, Ohio. The total is just 32 ½-points, so it’s expected to be low scoring with lots of backup players earning time.
The most interesting subplot is receiver Terrell Owens playing against his former team. He played a tumultuous three years with Dallas before being cut and exiled to Buffalo last year. You know Owens will want to make a statement in this game even if it doesn’t count.
Quarterback Carson Palmer also wants to show he’s fine after a sub-par 2009. Palmer has lost some zip off his fastball, but he’s got a great group of receiving targets with Owens, Chad Ochocinco and rookie tight end Jermaine Gresham.
Wide-out Antonio Bryant is also in the mix as a slot receiver, but he’s out for Sunday with a knee injury.
After Palmer at quarterback, expect to see J.T. O’Sullivan and Carson’s brother Jordan. O’Sullivan is a dangerous player in these types of games as he always needs to prove himself.
There’s an interesting battle going on at quarterback for Dallas too. Starter Tony Romo is arguably the most important player on the team, but fans are also concerned about the backup position.
Veteran Jon Kitna is currently No. 2 with Stephen McGee the third stringer. The second-year player from Texas A&M could move up the depth chart sooner rather than later. He will get plenty of time in the preseason, starting with this game.
One player no one will be throwing to is rookie Dez Bryant, He’s out with a sprained ankle. The Cowboys have plenty of depth at receiver and Roy Williams may get some balls early as he and Romo are trying to get in sync.
Both Cincinnati and Dallas went 2-2 straight-up and ATS in the preseason last year. Dallas has lost and failed to ‘cover’ the last two years of Week 1 preseason.
