The Mercury bolted to a 34-17 lead after one quarter but couldn’t sustain the effort, leading to the Sky’s first under in seven road games, and the Mercury’s second under in eight at US Airways Center.
The teams went into Wednesday’s game shooting a combined 45 percent, but managed only 38.9% — Chicago’s 34.6% came during the second game of a back-to-back. The Sky, who lead the WNBA in three-point shooting, hit 1-of-13.
Diana Taurasi had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Phoenix, who moved one-half game into first place in the West. Candice Dupree had 22 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals — all team highs — for Chicago, who dropped into a second-place tie in the East. The Sky are 3-9 ATS, second-worst in the league.
