GIQ WNBA Preview — Western Conference semifinal Game 3, San Antonio Silver Stars at Phoenix Mercury

by Frisco Del Rosario on September 21, 2009

The loser goes home, the winner goes on to meet Los Angeles in the conference final. The Sparks are surely rooting for San Antonio, against whom they would have the home court advantage.

In road games after a win at home, San Antonio was 0-5 in the regular season, while Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinal made that 0-6.

But the Stars are not without hope, because in their next game on the road following those five losses, the Stars are 2-2. Also, Phoenix — despite the best record in the league — had four homestands of two or more games, and lost the last game in two of the four.

San Antonio won two games in a row against the spread twice this season, and ended up with the worst record ATS in the West, and tied with a bad Chicago team for worst in the league. Straight up, they were lucky to edge into the playoffs because Minnesota eventually fell to pieces after losing Seimone Augustus.
