GIQ WNBA Preview — Phoenix Mercury at Indiana Fever

by Frisco Del Rosario on September 2, 2009

Indiana’s had two two-game losing streaks, one of which was on opening weekend, the other a week ago, when the Fever visited Sacramento and Seattle, traditionally two of the most difficult places in the league.

Phoenix had a two-game burp in June while hosting Seattle and visiting San Antonio.

The point is that both first-place teams are coming off a loss, so one of them will have a two-game streak at the end of Wednesday’s game.

While visiting Atlanta and Detroit, both in the top four in the East, Phoenix gave up 100 points. As a road underdog, the Mercury are 6-4 ATS.

Phoenix’s lead in the West has shrunk to one game since Seattle is on a six-game win streak. Indiana’s just waiting to see which of five teams will end up in the #4 spot in the East.

There’s almost no precedent for how the Fever will bounce back from losing to last-place Sacramento at home — they hadn’t lost at home since June 7, and on June 9, they beat Seattle, covering -2.5.

The 79 points Indiana gave up Saturday was the second-most the Fever have allowed at home all season. They were on a streak of three unders in home games.
