Default EPL News July 10th

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has met with John Terry and believes the defender is happy to stay at Stamford Bridge despite talk of a £30m offer from Manchester City. The Blues plan to make Terry their best-paid player. The Sun

City are increasingly confident of tempting Terry to Eastlands despite Chelsea’s offer of a new contract which would make the 28-year-old England captain their highest-paid player. Daily Mirror

I’d find it interesting if the Chelsea captain is only happy to continue if he gets paid more money. All for someone getting more money but this would reflect poorly on someone who is suppose to be a leader in the dressing room. It’s not like Real Madrid are trying to scoop him away, instead it’s a club that can’t even offer Terry European football this year.

Chelsea midfielder Deco is prepared to stay at the club after seeing Inter Milan withdraw their interest in him.

Sadly it appears Deco may not have any choice in this matter but to stay on with Chelsea.

Hull boss Phil Brown confirms the club have made a “firm and substantial bid” for Fulham striker Bobby Zamora. (Press Association)

Two years in a row now I’ve failed to understand why clubs seem to be interested in Zamora’s services. Could see the poor mans Emile Heskey comparison but at least Heskey chips in a few goals.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce hopes to push through his first summer signing over the weekend after agreeing a fee with Manchester United for Fraizer Campbell. (Press Association)

You knew with Fraizer Campbell stalling on Hull City that he was hoping another club like Sunderland would step up and make a bid.

Meanwhile, City have given Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o 24 hours to sign for them or miss out on becoming the best-paid player in English football. (Daily Mirror)

Something tells me they would give Eto’o until Monday if push came to shove. To defend Manchester City here I’d be annoyed too if I’ve offered more money than a player has ever seen before and he just keeps stalling his decision one way or another.

Barcelona have stepped up their pursuit of Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas after club president Joan Laporta claimed signing the £40m-rated Spaniard is high on their agenda this summer. The Sun

Still love the fact Arsenal quoted the £40 million figure which I’m sure has some clubs thinking that is pretty low all things considered this summer.

Arsenal appear to have missed out on Fiorentina midfielder Felipe Melo and manager Arsene Wenger now wants to sign Ever Banega, Valencia’s 21-year-old Argentine midfielder. (Daily Telegraph)

Another player who fits in the buy low, sell high model. Banega hasn’t had an ideal time in Europe so far after his €18 million move from Boca Juniors in 2008.

Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill is facing a battle to keep John Carew as Tottenham prepare a £5m bid for the striker. Daily Express

Don’t image many Aston Villa fans still wish they had Milan Baros who Aston Villa gave up in a rare player for player swap with John Carew.

Stoke are willing pay a club-record £6m for Rennes midfielder Stephane Mbia. The Sun

The Cameroonian international was linked to Everton in the last transfer period but nothing further came from it.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis will offer the French club £10m to beat off competition from Everton and Marseille for Cameroon international Mbia. (Daily Mirror)

At £10 million would see way Everton backed off. This would be a classic case of a lower tiered EPL team having to over pay in order to obtain a decent player.

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

I also heard Barca was offering Hleb with cash for Fabregas? What the hell is the point of that?
