    Default Woeful Detroit Lions..............

I've been a Loyal (yet generally unhappy) Lions fan my entire life. Born in 1960 and the last championship trophy awarded to the motor city kitties was a few years before I was born. I'm liking the hiring of Schwartz (Tennessee Defensive Coordinator) as the new coach. The Lions have the 1st, 20th (from Dallas), 33rd, 65th, and 82nd pick (again from Dallas) in the first three rounds. I was happy that the team finally parted ways with Matt Millen, but scratched my head (cussed/kicked chit) when the asst'. GM Mayhew (who Millen brought in with him in 2001) was made interim GM. Then he surprised me by unloading Roy Williams to Dallas in a great deal that helped to load the Lions with 2009 draft picks and open salary cap space. After this lengthy recap, does anyone feel as I do that the Lions should dangle that sweet first pick in the draft to trade down and pick up even more picks and possibly a player from a team drooling to position themselves at number one? I don't think they should stay at number one and choose a quarterback. Just ask Joey Harrington. If you ain't got no protection you ain't got chit. I would love to see them trade down a little in the first round, pick up an additional second round pick and possibly a decent veteran. With six picks in the first three rounds they should then be addressing two offensive linemen, a defensive tackle, a defensive end, a linebacker, and either a safety or a cornerback. Best player available at each pick. I know that I'm probably standing alone here with my thoughts and concerns about the lowly Lions, but like I stated in the beginning, I'm a Loyal Fan looking forward to this years draft and the management/coaching changes being implemented for the coming year. Just looking for some feedback.........and I can take the ribbing and jokes too.

Hey Dog. Been a Lions fan since I was 10 years old and they lost to the Cowboys in the playoff game, 5-0.

I was born in 1960 as well.

The guys here and elsewhere know I am a diehard fan.
    Just ask em.

And my greatest fear right now is hearing this...
"With the first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select … Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia."

Let me add if they take Stafford I may just
    shoot somebody.

    But seriously I totally agree.

Trade down. Maybe make a trade for another franchise.

Maybe trade for a new owner. Anybody but Al Davis.

I told my wife, Once Before I Die.
She always thought I was talking about a
blue eyed blonde that doesnt know the meaning of the word "NO". :buckteeth

But I just want to see a playoff game that we win let alone a Super Bowl.
