Fewer than 30 cars to be fully sponsored for next season. Nascar to cut testing to save money. The big 3 auto makers asking for a bailout. About 1000 workers to be laid off in the three national series. Tough times for NASCAR.

Thanks Paul. Times are tough for so many. I understand 1/10 jobs are somewhat related to the auto industry.

It cost 15 to 20 mil maybe more a year to run a team these days.....

Unless Nascar does something their gonna be in trouble for a while imo....

No way they can continue any success... they don't have any right now... Not in the states.. They have No Huge Sponsors.. No TV Contracts and No Drivers to speak of anymore..... That may change with the merger... but open wheel may be a thing of the past in the US for the foreseeable Future...

The days of Rick Mears, A.J. Foyt and Al Unser are a thing of the past......Not even Danica posing in Playboy could save open wheel racing in the U.S.right now.

I don't wish anyone ill, but I don't have any interest in any auto racing.

I used to pick up a few arbs on it now and then but I don't do that any more so, I hate to say it, but it can all fade away as far as I'm concerned.

Nascar really is screwed up right now. They became too commercial too fast and in doing so they pissed off their original fan base and never expanded their casual fan base enough. Its nice to see that DEI cannot survive on its own, Id be willing to bet a healthy amount of money that it would survive just fine if Jr was still part of the team. He was worth every percentage point that he asked for and he was due.

The other problem with Nascar is the season is too long. After football season starts, no one really cares about Nascar. Its great come February because we dont have much else other than Basketball and that sport they play on ice. Maybe they should start the race season earlier and end earlier. But ending the season in November is just stupid.

And the final thing, this whole race for the chase is awful. Clean up the friggin point system, make it easier to understand, and let the best driver over the year win his trophy. The system they have now, like the golf system, doesnt have the "drama" it was expected to have.

Just one mans view as a pretty serious NASCAR fan bettor of 11 yrs (MANY more yrs as a viewer), I am tiring of it these days, esp the chase format and the whining about not racing the contenders hard when they are competing in the chase.

Agreed General. However, that has made for some good value in some matchups the last few weeks... but you had to have been paying attention.
