Everybody is looking for the 2009 college football preseason rankings. I’m just going to say now, the official AP Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll are not going to be released until a few weeks before the season starts. So if you are looking for the official 2009 NCAA football preseason rankings you can check back at the beginning of August. But that may not be entirely necessary. You see, everyone who is anyone has released their own 2009 preseason NCAA football rankings. Bloggers, sportswriters, columnists and everyone else on all sorts of college football blogs has made their picks for the 2009 preseason college football rankings. I went out there and found 12 of them. So you want to know what the preseason rankings are going to be this August? I can give you something that will be darn close by combining these 12 polls that are probably a good representation of how the actual AP pollsters will go.
Ok, here’s how we’ll do this. I’ll show you all 12 polls of preseason rankings I could get my hands on. Then I’ll give 25 points for a first place vote, 24 votes for second, 23 points for third, etc. I’ll add up how many points each team receives from these polls and give you the resulting top 25. Here we go:

I’m sure there are plenty of other preseason rankings out there, but this list will just have to do. Now as I said, I gave 25 points for a first place vote, 24 points for second, 23 points for third, etc. After tallying up all the results, here is my best guess at the 2009 preseason rankings when they are released in August. Point totals will be included, first place votes in (), and other receiving votes will be shown as well:

Now keep in mind, two of the actual AP voters have their polls included in this total, so it should be pretty close to this. I hope I’m wrong, as I always hate to see Notre Dame ranked in the preseason every year. They look pretty good except for Alabama. I don’t know how anyone can lose their starting quarterback and running back, along with the heart of their offensive line and be ranked so high. That’s ok, a first week trip to Atlanta against Virginia Tech should slide them down where they belong.
So there you have it, the 2009 preseason college football rankings, or at least the closest thing there is until August when the AP and USA Today release the official polls.
