Default Spooky Express Bowling For Dollars Selection And Analysis Thread

ITS THAT TIME!!!!!!
BOWLING FOR DOLLARS!

SPOOKY EXPRESS AND BOWL SEASON.

Many of you know I started posting my bowl game selections almost 10 years ago and that is how it all began at the forums.

Never have had a losing bowl season since 1977 and not about to start now. Record speaks for itself.

Have had some unbelievable outstanding seasons and a few average years but always have showed a profit.

This is the only time I truly crunch numbers and play more with the numbers than my head.

Will start posting some opinions in the next week.
Some of you know my postings have been limited with the legal drama going on from the sale of my business, even though it is over 2 years later. So if I am not around as much or here to post my selections, you know why.

I am just going to make 1 thread for the analysis, write ups, thoughts for each of the games that go along with the rankings and another thread for my game time updates, selections and wagers.

These will once again be MY PLAYS and my opinion.
I really dont care if you follow or not. Not looking to debate my selections.

The totals (Over/Unders) will be posted much closer to game time since weather and other developments effect the game.

I will post my power ratings, my dog plays and some money line plays if you care.

Happy Holidays and best of luck.
--------------------------------------------------------------

BOWL SELECTIONS, EXPLANATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS.

First off, as the odds change so can the selection. Obviously the Best bets will not change dramatically.

Also will play MONEY LINE Parlays with some teams that are favored to win but not cover by much.

You are not going to get a selection for every game, but using some consistency and going with what YOU believe in, will bring home the $$$.

Six-pack to kick off Bowl Season

Initial thoughts after a quick look at the bowl matchups........

-- Opening line for BCS Championship game: Florida -3 over the Oklahoma Sooners, with a total of 72. Sooners are first team in the history of college football to score 60+ points six games in a row, and they're getting points in their bowl game-- go figure.

-- Most fun bowl to watch: Ole Miss-Texas Tech, Houston Nutt-Mike Leach, trick plays vs pass plays. Lots of offense. Runnerup is the Oregon-Oklahoma State game-- lots of offense there, too.

-- Clemson is in Gator Bowl for a record ninth time; their game vs Nebraska is a rematch of the '82 Orange Bowl, when Tigers won a national championship by upsetting the Cornhuskers.

-- LSU faces Georgia Tech, in game between only two teams that wear white uniforms at home, so whomever wears the dark jerseys in this game will feel a little weird.

-- NC State-Rutgers is in Birmingham; State's O'Brien is America's hottest bowl coach, winning his last seven. Rutgers was the hottest team in the Northeast down the stretch. Should be interesting.

-- Vanderbilt is going to its first bowl since 1982, but they don't get a road trip- they're staying home for the Music City Bowl, which is in Nashville. Their opponent is Boston College, winners in their last eight bowls. Not sure if QB Crane will be back for the Eagles.

Default Spooky Express Bowling For Dollars Selection And Analysis Thread

Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but..........

13) Had to go to my attorney on Monday for a legal mess second to none in my life, and stumbled upon the worst TV show I've ever seen- the Martha Stewart Show. She makes like June Cleaver cooking, baking and talking about Christmas cookies and all the while I'm thinking, "This woman did time in federal prison, Why is she baking cookies on TV?" Amazing terrible television.

12) By the way, if you're at a Monday night football game, easiest way to get shown on TV is to dress up as . Just so you know.

11) Notre Dame somehow got a trip to Hawai'i for their bowl, and on the worst TV night of the year- Christmas Eve. Terrific. They're an underdog to Hawai'i by the way-- Irish are 0-9 in bowls since 1994.

10) There are 120 Division I college football teams-- 89 of the other 119 have won a bowl game since the last time Notre Dame won one.

9) Harrison Frazar has played 300 PGA tournaments without a win, but he won Q-School this week by eight strokes, and gets his 2009 PGA Tour card, along with 27 other graduates of Q-School. Frazar shot a 59 in the fourth round-- you should get a bonus for that!!!!!

8) Bronx Bomber pitching coach Dave Eiland was an extra in Kevin Costner's 1999 baseball movie, For the Love of the Game.

7) Arizona Cardinals will host a playoff game this year for the first time, since......since.......well, 1947, when they played in Chicago.

6) ESPN has re-hired Barry Melrose to do NHL analysis, after his brief tenure coaching Tampa Bay; he returns to ESPN January 1st.

5) Arizona ran 56 plays against the Rams Sunday; only nine of them came on third down, that's how easily they moved the ball. Rams, by the way, have scored one second half TD in their last seven games, and could be owned by Rush Limbaugh fairly soon, if Rosenblooms decide to sell the team to people with ties in Missouri.

4) Atlanta Falcons, playing with a rookie QB, have averaged 7.6 yds per pass attempt or better in their last six games- that's really good.

3) Arkansas' Bobby Petrino is only SEC football coach who didn't go to a bowl that didn't get fired. There's always a chance Petrino could quit for another job, however, given his track record.

2) There don't seem to be any real great freshman college hoopsters this season, after OJ Mayo/Michael Beasley last year. It looks like a North Carolina year, but if they slip up, there are lot of other teams that are evenly matched, so it should be a great season.

1) Odd fact of the day-- When Giants won NFC title game last year at Lambeau Field, they didn't have water or Gatorade on sidelines on a very cold day-- they served their players chicken broth, which kept them both warm and hydrated.

Default Spooky's Worst From The Last Week Of The College Football Regular Season

The worst of the week

Most of it from the NFL, but at least we get the Bowl thread started.

10. Nate Davis - Stupid Ball State. Who loses to Buffalo? Davis, who some are saying may leave early for the NFL, turned the ball over FIVE times (2 returned for touchdowns) in the blowout loss to the perennial doormats of the MAC. If you can't win the MAC, you aren't going to win in the NFL (see: Jacobs, Omar; Frye, Charlie; and Harris, Josh). I suggest sticking around for your Senior year and, you know, actually accomplishing something first. The good thing about this is that the 2003 Miami team can still hold the title of the best MAC team ever.

9. Gus Frerrote - Whew, that was close. For awhile I thought that the Lions might be getting off the schnide due to Gus's awfulness. But, alas, the great Tarvaris Jackson came in with a hot hand and kept the dream of a perfect season alive in Detroit. Defeated Season? YES WE CAN!!!

8. Toronto - I'm sorry, America's Hat. You deserved better than that. Maybe Canada should just tell Ralph Wilson, thanks but no thanks. You can keep these losers in New York. The Dolphins have to be the worst 8-5 of all time, don't they? And the Bills...my God. If Dick Jauron doesn't get fired soon, it's a freaking miracle. They can't even beat the Browns.

7. Steven Jackson - Exactly why does everyone feel that he is an elite RB in the league? The guy has done almost nothing in his career but fools us with maybe 2 big games each season. Sunday, he lost two fumbles and one was returned for a touchdown. I would bet that if you asked the city of LA if they wanted the Rams back, they would decline that offer. They would probably ignore your phone call.

6. David Garrard - It probably wasn't a good idea to give him superstar money this past offseason because he has sucked all season long. I know, I know, they have no offensive lineman, Fred Taylor has quit, and their WR's are garbage but still. No one is a bigger Garrard apologist than me but I've got no defense left for him. He sucks.

5. Mike McCarthy (The HERM! Edwards Memorial Spot) - What is going on in Green Bay? They have to be the best 5-8 team ever but they always fucking lose. The offense is good for the most part and the defense is usually better than giving up 400+ yards to Matt Schaub's corpse. But when the game is on the line, you can't let the Houston god damn Texans drive from the 5 yard line for the winning field goal! I've got to think that McCarthy is on extremely thin ice because there is no excuse for being 3 games behind Von Kaiser's team in the NFC North.

4. Jamal's Lewis's - 9 touches for 10 total yards. Well done you coke-transporting sack of shit. You can't blame Ken Dorsey for how bad the Browns were yesterday. You really can't. A third string QB is only there to collect a paycheck, you can't expect him to win a game for you. They really need to gut the entire Browns organization and start over again. Guess what, idiots, Marty Schottenheimer ain't the fucking answer to the question, "How do the Browns stop being a horrible franchise"?

3. Eli Manning - Doesn't the world feel right when Eli Manning is horrible? It does to me. Boy did he suck balls or what? His bid for MVP was officially ended yesterday and that is fine by me due to his not being that good and all. And hey Giants defense, the Eagles only have one good player on offense and his last name is Westbrook. You may have heard of him. You should probably focus on stopping him first and make McShitty beat you with his wounded ducks.

2. Brett Favre - There are very few players in the NFL that I root against more than Favre. Nice job losing to the 49ers. Nice job getting outplayed by Shaun Hill. Nice job being a douchebag. Can you just retire already. Side note: there is a former NFL player that frequents the bar that a friend of mine attends. He's pretty friendly with my buddy. His story about Favre, which is semi-amusing, is that everytime Brett sees you and tries to shake your hand, he uses the phrase, "put 'er in the ol' vise". What a fucking country-fried idiot.

1. Tony Romo - HA! What a bag of dicks! My least favorite player in the league "awww-shucks"ed his way to truly horrendous performance yesterday in Shitsburgh. The Cowboys had that game won. Tashard Choice was surprisingly effective. The defense was a god damn beast. They were ready to move to 9-4 and get back into the playoffs. But Romo was awful. And he lost the game. That was on him. I realize that the Steelers have a great defense and all, but his decision-making (like usual) was sub-par. And another thing, as bad as Big Ben was for 3 quarters yesterday, he has to be happy that he's done with the NFC East teams this year considering that they sacked him 25 times in 4 games. That o-line in Pittsburgh is beyond bad. My team may suck, but fuck the Cowboys in the ass. Especially after costing me a small fortune on last sunday's game.

Default Spooky Express And The Oj Simpson Redemption

The Simpson Redemption

Guess what? OJ Simpson was sentenced to an extremely extended stay in prison last week! That's not breaking news or anything but no one (that I've read at least) is exploring the consequences of this. Now that Fred Goldman is done chest-bumping anyone that will listen to him while Lt. Frank Drebin weeps in the corner, it's time to shift our focus a bit. Let's look at the residual effects of OJ heading to the can*.

*I admit it, I did not think of this topic. It was brought to my attention by a shit faced drunken friend hwo read it on a blog. He could barely speak fluent English, probably doesn't remember it anyway, and not only doesn't post on forums, but would struggle to turn on a computer when he is sober. So fuck him, I'm taking credit for this along with the guy who wrote the blog.

You have to understand I became a USC fan back in 1968 all because of one person and that is OJ Simpson. Been Fighting On over 40 years now and still have his signed helmet and autographs front and center in my display.

Nobody ever did cut and slash like OJ, did they?

First of all, and Peter King wrote about this better than I ever could in his column this week, Canton can't do shit to OJ.
The Hall of Fame is for on-field achievements and doesn't focus on extracurriculur activities. I mean, come on, no one is asking for Jim Brown or Michael Irvin to get dumped and they respectively punched women for fun and stabbed teammates in the neck with scissors. And all that OJ was guilty for, technically, was being a tad over-zealous when it came to getting back his property. Honestly, I would love to have my bust next to The Juice. People would walk by OJ's and immediately get disgusted. Then they would stumble onto my face and say things like, "I've never heard of this guy, but he's much, MUCH better than that last guy."
And that's my goal in life...to be one better than the worst.

Now. Let's get to the part where we dive into the inner-psyche of OJ Simpson. This guy, per the rules of winning, votes for the Heisman Trophy winner every year. I'm quite certain that he doesn't show up to the ceremony (and he definitely won't now), but OJ freaking Simpson still helps decide the most prestigious award in sports. If memory serves me, if you win a Heisman, you vote for the winner until you die. So what the hell happens now? What is OJ's criteria for deeming who is deserving? Has he been watching games in the clink? Does he even have a TV? How does he have the foundation to make an educated selection? I would imagine that, much like the Hall of Fame, they can't take his vote away for being worthless (they still let Gino Toretta and Jason White vote!). So does he get a ballot from the D.A.C. via prison mail? What if the warden forgets to mail it back? These are questions that need to be answered!

WHO DID THE JUICE VOTE FOR THIS YEAR!!!

Here's my suggestion of how can we build up OJ Simpson's reputation again. It's time for The Juice to start gaining some favor back with the American public. Obviously, there are a handful of families that will never forgive him but college football fans are fickle and easily swayed.

Let's get the NCAA to stock OJ's cell with ten plasmas and make him watch every single televised college football game. He can pay for the ESPN Game Plan package in cigarettes if need be. It's not like he has anything better to do once he's done lifiting weights and cleaning the bathroom. We make OJ Simpson THEE go-to guy when it comes to all things college football. An expert. He gets his own poll. Hell, scrap the BCS entirely and allow OJ free reign on assigning the BCS championship game and all other bowl games. After all, no one will have watched as much football as he will. You throw out the computers and the voters and the stupid coaches poll and give that responsibility to one man who knows every team better than he knows his own cell. If we can get The Juice to take this as seriously as he did football, acting, and the love for his wife, this will be a massive success!

This will work. It has to. It makes too much sense. OJ Simpson needs to run all of college football. The Juice can free us all of the BCS's tyranny. And put USC in the National Championship game so we dont have to watch Oklahoma get beaten up once again.

Six-pack for Wednesday as we work towards Bowl Season

-- Mets stepped up to plate and signed K-Rod for three years; now they're back to being the favorite in the NL East next season. Lets go Mets!

-- Of the 24 major leaguers offered salary arbitration this year, only two accepted-- David Weathers, Darren Oliver-- Oliver is 14-3 the last three seasons, pitching for the Mets and Angels, with less hits allowed than innings pitched all three seasons.

-- You can make strong case for Texas as #2 college hoop team in country, behind North Carolina. Longhorns beat UCLA, Villanova in last two games, are deep, athletic and very well-coached.

-- Of the 34 bowls, which would be the worst place for players to go? Detroit? Boise? Shreveport? Toronto? I vote for Detroit.

-- Carolina ran ball for 300 yards Monday night; they haven't lost in Charlotte, and any team that runs the ball like that can win away from home in cold weather. At 10-3, the Panthers are a threat.

-- NFL laid off 150 workers yesterday, as down times for 2009 are expected; league scrapped plans to have preseason game in China, bad news for Robert Kraft, who has business interests there.

You are not going to get a selection for every game, but using some consistency and going with what YOU believe in, will bring home the $$$.

There will be in the coming weeks much more analysis and capping for each game along with some totals (Over/Unders) which will be posted much closer to game time since weather and other developments effect the game.

This is where I jump on some early lines which stand out and get the best value for the wager. I may completely reverse my thinking as time goes by based on other circumstances, but for now I let the numbers do the talking and everyone that has seen or followed the express this millennium can corroborate how solid they usually are.

Also focus on the teams that are more dominant in the running game especially if they are an underdog.

More to come, but right now.

Jump all over RUTGERS and FLORIDA.

Default Spooky Express Random Thoughts One Week Before Bowl Games Begin

Sunday's List of 13: Random thoughts on a cold Saturday night

13) Where is Terrell Owens' next stop, the WWE? I can see him with a metal chair, bashing his tagteam partner over the head, but I can't see another NFL team signing him after the Cowboys get sick of him.

12) Knicks scored 43 points in first quarter at Sacramento Saturday, as Kings made New York look like the '87 Lakers. Has team ever had worse interior players than Sacramento? What happened to Kings' franchise? Ton of empty seats at Saturday night's game.

11) I still don't understand why the Heisman Trophy is such a big deal; maybe its because college football doesn't have a playoff system to focus on. To me, such hype over an individual award is stupid.

10) That said, you know Urban Meyer is going to use Sam Bradford winning the Heisman as a psychological ploy for his Gators as they get ready to face Oklahoma. Cheesy maybe, but it'll happen.

9) Memphis-Georgetown would have been a great college hoop game if it had been played in March; in December, was even better. Teams went at each other for 45 entertaining minutes, before Hoyas finally avenged their loss to Memphis LY with a 79-70 win in overtime. And did you see how Georgetown covered the game. Up by 6 points dribbling out the clock, kid thew the ball up
as time ran out in celebration of the victory. And............ball goes in the
basket to give G'town a 9 point victory. I and many others had Memphis plus 6.5 points. Gimme a break. And the day got worse from there.

8) Halftime score: Kentucky 36, Indiana 13; going to be a long winter for Tom Crean, but he has an excellent recruiting class for next year.

7) The son of Titans' coach Jeff Fisher is a DB at Montana-- they'll be playing for I-AA national title next weekend, ironically enough in Chattanooga, TN against the Richmond Spiders. Told everyone here at the forum that Montana would be there and probably win the whole thing. Is it Moose season in Montana now?

6) Next spring, Phillies are going to be in same position Giants were in this summer-- the defending champ no one gives a chance. With the Mets signing K-Rod and trading for JJ Putz, they're back to being the favorite in NL East, which has to delight Charlie Manuel.

5) Christmas came early in Philly Saturday, as Dionte Christmas had 35 in Temple's upset over Tennessee. JP Prince, one of best players for the Vols, sprained an ankle in practice Friday and didn't play.

4) Western Kentucky won at Louisville, then beat Georgia, won at Tulane easily, so how do they go to Evansville and lose by 32? They were down 36-13 at the half-- some scores just don't make sense.

3) Atlanta Hawks (14-9) ended Cleveland's 11-game winning streak, 97-92; in a game the Cavaliers lost by 5, Cleveland was +11 in 19:53 that Wally Szczerbiak played, a significant stat. Lebron was +1.

2) It is December 14, and already five NBA coaches have been fired, and none of them are Reggie Theus, who would appear to be next on the chopping block. Do the 76ers really think this guy they installed as interim coach is an upgrade over Maurice Cheeks?

1) This is what college football has come to: Auburn wasn't happy with its coach, so Iowa State has to hire a new coach, even though the Cyclones were 5-19 the last two years. When was the last time a guy went 5-19 and got a much better job?

A team meeting wasn't held in Ames to inform the players what was up, so younger players Chizik recruited are understandably upset, and could transfer, which forces ISU to hire a coach quickly, to keep returning players and their 16 recruiting commitments in the fold.

Default Spooky Express Bowling For Dollars Selection And Analysis Thread

OKAY NOW THE VERY EARLY RECAP

As the odds change so can the selection.

Obviously the Best bets will not change dramatically.

Also I play MONEY LINE Parlays with some teams that are favored to win but not cover by much. You are not going to get a selection for every game, but using some consistency and going with what YOU believe in, will bring home the $$$.

There will be in the coming weeks more analysis and capping for each game along with some totals (Over/Unders) which will be posted much closer to game time since weather and other developments effect the game.

Right now is where I jump on some early lines which stand out and get the best value for the wager. I may completely reverse my thinking as time goes by, but for now I let the numbers do the talking and everyone that has seen or followed this millennium can corroborate how solid they usually are.

ANYTIME A TEAM IS PICKED TO WIN OUTRIGHT AND ALSO COVER WITH THE POINTS MAKES THEM A PLAY. NO LOOKING BACK, NO THINKING ABOUT IT.

RIGHT NOW THESE ARE THE PLAYS THAT STAND OUT

MISSISSIPPI, RUTGERS, NEVADA, WEST VIRGINIA, BOSTON COLLEGE, CONNECTICUT AND FLORIDA.

Also have some interesting numbers with

UTAH and NORTHWESTERN
which may be something to watch.

HERE ARE SOME REAL LIVE UNDERDOGS!!

MISSISSIPPI, UTAH, WESTERN MICHIGAN, NAVY AND AIR FORCE

These teams are picked to win and they are getting points. Money Line Dogs. Get them while they are hot. Doesnt seem like
many dogs are going to win this bowl season and that truly is
not what has shown to be in the past.

Don’t be afraid when the pointspread moves. It is done so emotionally. QB gets hurt, RB gets suspended, who cares. The points will be adjusted. These selections are not based on 1 or 2 games but an entire season. Remember since 1977 this has not lost.
Just use some judgement and as we get closer the plays will become clearer.

If you like a Pro game, start making small parlays with them on the best bets. By the time game time comes around you should have tons of action on the later games and that creates tons of profit!!!!

Another scenerio to look for is a team with the best rushing stats, with a good defense that is getting points.
This better "run" team information would be based on
(YPC gained vs opponents YPC allowed on offense & vice versa on defense).

As I get some of that together we may have some really solid plays.

The motivational factors and coaching changes can be huge for some of these teams in the bowls.

Here is a list of a few things to think about for each game:

Fresno/Colorado St. Fresno has to be disappointed with their season after having BCS hopes. But CSU might just be happy to be there. Plus CSU has a first year coach.

TCU/Boise Neither of these teams should have any trouble being motivated for each other.

USF/Memphis USF has to be very disappointed in their season. Memphis probably looking to make up for last season's poor bowl showing.

Notre Dame/Hawaii ND has to be disappointed in their season. But also motivated to stop their bowl losing streak. Hawaii playing at home.

FAU/CMU Both were preseason faves in their respective conferences. So it's probably a wash.

West Virginia/UNC WV fell way short of their preseason goal. UNC's first bowl game in 4 years.

Wisconsin/FSU Neither achieved their goals.

Miami/CAL Miami just happy to be in a bowl. CAL underachieved?

NIU/La Tech Both just happy to be in a bowl

NCST/Rutgers NCST just happy to be in a bowl after missing last season and starting slow. Rutgers didn't achieve their goals but played well down the stretch. Tough call. Tom O'Brien coached teams have done well in their bowl games. Both teams red hot on offense.

Northwestern/Missouri NW should be pumped since nobody is giving them a prayer to beat Mizzou. Mizzou fell way short of their BCS goal.

Nevada/Maryland Nevada probably the more motivated team after getting beat in their bowl game last year. Maryland coming up short in the ACC.

WMU/Rice Rice is definitely motivated to win this game and get to 10 wins for only the second time in their school's history. Plus they haven't won a bowl game since I've been alive.

Oregon/OSU Both teams should be very motivated to play each other. OSU's DC leaving.

Houston/Air Force Houston looking for revenge from early season loss to AF in which the game was moved because of the hurricane that hit the Houston area.

Pitt/Oregon St. Pitt could possibly be a little disappointed by not making it to a BCS game. But OSU is probably devastated by not making it to the Rose Bowl. I would say Pitt has the motivational edge.

BC/Vandy Vandy should be motivated because this is their first bowl game in 26 years. But BC probably very motivated to extend their 8 game winning streak.

Minnesota/Kansas Minny probably has the motivational edge. But may be just happy to be there. Kansas taking a big step back from last season's BCS game.

LSU/GT GT should have the motivational and coaching edge. LSU going from the penthouse to the outhouse.

Iowa/South Carolina I htink Iowa probably has a huge motivational edge after missing out on a bowl last year. I think SC had bigger plans for this year. Plus their last two blowout losses doesn't help.

Clemson/Nebraska Same thing for Clemson as SC. A BIG disappointment this season, going up against a Husker team who missed a bowl last year. I'm also more apt to take first year coach Pelini over an interim coach.

MSU/Georgia Have to think Georgia's season was a huge disappointment.

Penn State/USC Both missed out on their BCS title dreams. The west coast angle always favors USC in these games.

VT/Cincy Both teams should be motivated. Cincy probably happy and shocked to be there.

Ole Miss/Texas Tech Probably a huge motivational edge for Ole Miss here after TT's BCS hopes went up like a nuclear bomb in Norman.

ECU/Kentucky ECU was thinking big earlier in the year. But I'm not sure there is really a motivational edge here.

Utah/Bama Utah HUGE after Bama blew their chance at a NC. Plus nobody is giving Utah a prayer.

Buffalo/UCONN Buffalo should definitely be motivated. But UCONN probably is too after losing their bowl game last season. Plus the Huskies have more bowl experience. Turner Gill possibly leaving?

Texas/Ohio State Will Texas be disappointed or pissed after missing out on a BCS title game? Like the Sooners, OSU would like to silence the critics. Possible revenge game for Colt McCoy after losing to OSU as a freshman starter. Tough motivational call.

Ball State/Tulsa Both have to be disappointed after losing their conference title games. But who will be the most devastated?

OU/FLorida OU should definitely be motivated after their last few BCS performances, and the fact that not many of the "experts" are giving them a chance. Florida will be pretty much the home team.
