Default Spooky Express Bowling For Dollars Selection And Analysis Thread

Back later with some analysis and thoughts on the
game. But I posted this almost 4 weeks ago.

This is what I consider my best bet of the
bowl season.

Along with Mississippi, Rutgers and USC.

I will probably go off on this game because it
is the last one and cause I think it is a no brainer.

Also said last night to parlay OHIO STATE with
FLORIDA so lets get the 2nd half of the Daily Double
home.

I was at the Championship game back on
January 4, 2005 when USC put a beating on
Oklahoma. I would not be suprised to see it
happen again.

Wish I was there.

Tonights game is just not one that jumps at me.
Line moving 6 points and it still points to Tulsa and
I need them to have a chance to win our bowl contest.

Lets get rolling. Here is a quick six pack to get it started.
-------------------------------------------------------

Six-pack for Tuesday

-- Notre Dame ended 5-game losing skid to Georgetown, handing Hoyas their second loss in three days, 73-67.

-- Towson State pulled biggest upset of night, winning at Delaware 62-61, as an 8-point underdog.

-- Utah's Paul Millsap, who went to Louisiana Tech, recorded his 18th consecutive double-double. This is why Utah wins- they are successful in developing younger players to become contributors.

-- Warriors might be cursed; on night Corey Maggette came back after a hamstring injury, Stephen Jackson left with same injury.

-- Nuggets hung 135 points on Indiana, but Carmelo Anthony hurt his hand, probably breaking it. He sees a specialist Tuesday.

-- If you really, really like college football, GMAC Bowl is tonight, live from Mobile. Should be high-scoring, with two solid offenses.

BOWL SEASON FOR THE EXPRESS

29 WINS

20 LOSSES

1 PUSH

75 UNITS WON

59 UNITS LOST

Only thing to make note of since
New Years Day I am

13 Wins, 6 Losses with
42 Units Won and 16 Units Lost

Not a good start at all, but without chasing
and nothing wagered more than 5 units on a game,
turned it around after an awful brutal
(See Navy and Troy State) heartbreaking defeats.

And this is playing every single bowl game out there
because I am a degenerate. Just had to add that.

Wednesday's List of 13: Odds and ends on the day after bowling

13) Giants' defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo made more cash this season than Eric Mangini did as head coach of the Jets.

12) Have the Jets fired their team doctors yet? How was Brett Favre playing with a torn tendon in his bicep? Did they know he had the injury, and if so, why was he allowed to play? I mean, the coach got fired because the QB didn't play well, but the QB was hurt, so you can make a case that Mangini got fired because Favre played hurt.

11) Sacks became an official stat in 1982; the Chiefs had only 10as a team this season, the least by any team since 1982. Lions picked off only four passes this year, the least by any team in a full season.

10) Celtics lost five of last seven games since their 19-game winning streak ended Christmas Day- they lost in Charlotte last night.

9) NFL teams spend so much money on scouting, but Steelers cut James Harrison three times before he stuck with the team, and how he is one of the best players in the league. Same with the Patriots and Tom Brady, who was drafted in the sixth round, after all.

8) Conference play is starting to rev up in college hoops; Seton Hall took Villanova to OT last night, before losing by four.

7) Arkansas upset Texas at home, its 7th straight home win against a Top 25 team. Pelphrey is working wonders with the young Hogs.

6) Indians got sucked into signing Carl Pavano to an incentive-laden contract; he is guaranteed $1.5M in '09, with a possible $5.3M he can earn in incentives. Pavano started 26 games the last four years since he was 18-8 for the Marlins in 2004. Good luck with him.

5) Earth to Oakland: Jason Giambi turns 38 on Thursday.

4) I'm neutral on the NFL's overtime debate; the current system isn't unfair; after all, if you stop the other team, then you get the ball, but the college system is kind of fun, too. It wouldn't be horrible if they guaranteed each team one possession on offense.

3) FBI has apparently lost lot of people to attrition, so they posted around 3,000 job openings, 850 for agents, 2,100+ support people. Good opportunity for someone to get in with the federal government.

2) Tulsa crushed a disappointed Ball State in the GMAC Bowl, with much of the second half played in a monsoon. Second year in a row the Golden Hurricane won big in Mobile.

1) If Oklahoma beats Florida Thursday, how does Texas not get some votes as national champion? Sooners, Longhorns would both have a single loss, and Texas beat Oklahoma in their head-to-head meeting. It would seem ridiculous to keep Texas completely out of the picture. But in reality and say I am talking with my heart USC deserves and should be National Champions if the game was played on the field.

BCS Championship
#2 Florida vs. #1 Oklahoma
[FOX | 8 PM ET]

FLORIDA -3 (7 UNITS)

Florida (-5, O/U 69.5): The Gators enter this game off a huge win over former #1 Alabama in the SEC championship with QB Tim Tebow turning in a Heisman-worthy performance. Tebow ended up third in Heisman Trophy balloting behind Oklahoma's Sam Bradford after becoming the first sophomore ever to win the award a year ago, and Oklahoma CB Dominique Franks said he would be the fourth-best QB if he played in the Big 12. "I like it - it's fun," Tebow said. "It makes it more competitive, and I'll enjoy it. You can say whatever you want. That's fine. We still get to go play. That's what I like I do." Tebow hopes to get the last laugh by winning his second national championship in three years.

Florida (-11) lost its bowl game 41-35 LY, when it had Heisman winner on its side; this time, the Heisman winner is on other side-- Florida (+7) won BCS title 41-14 vs Ohio State two years ago. Gators won their last eight games, all by 28+ points, after losing 31-30 at home vs Ole Miss, in game they led by 10 at half. Florida is +21 in turnovers this season, picking off three passes in each of its last three games. SEC teams went 5-2 in first seven bowls this season, with only South Carolina, Alabama losing-- even Vanderbilt won its first bowl since 1955 last month.

Florida is 15-3 ATS in its last 18 games vs. teams with a winning record.
The OVER is 6-1 in Florida's last 7 lined games.

Key Injuries - WR/RB Percy Harvin (ankle) is probable.
WR Louis Murphy (knee) is probable.
RB Chris Rainey (groin) is probable.

Oklahoma: The Sooners own the nation's top offense, averaging nearly 60 points during a seven-game winning streak to end the regular season. Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford directed the record-breaking offense, which has scored 60 points or more in the last four games, becoming the first school to accomplish that feat since Tulsa did it five straight times back in 1919. The only real criticism for Oklahoma is that the team's defense surrendered 24.5 points per game in the high-scoring Big 12. The Sooners will also be missing leading rusher DeMarco Murray, putting even more pressure on Bradford, who will try to become just the third Heisman winner in 12 attempts to leave a game pitting #1 vs. #2 with a victory.
Oklahoma hasn't been good in bowls, losing four of last five years; they are 0-3 SU in last three bowls they were favored to win, but did win the Holiday Bowl (+3) vs Oregon three years ago-- Sooners are 6-2 against spread as an underdog since 2000. No one held Oklahoma under 35 pts this season; in their last five games, they scored 58-62-66-65-61 points, and three of last four teams they played went to bowls. Only team that beat Sooners was Texas (45-35, OU led 21-20 at half). Sooners had +19 turnover ratio in their last six games, +22 for the season.

Nebraska was only other Big 12 squad to be underdog in a bowl game- they won SU; Big 12 teams are 4-2 this bowl season, with Oklahoma St and Texas Tech losing, giving up 42-47 points. SEC teams play better defense than Big 12 teams do, Oklahoma has a dismal bowl history, so even though the spread keeps going up, Florida looks like the right side and I have been on the Gators since day 1. So lets double down and
roll with Florida.

Worth noting that underdogs are 19-14 vs spread in bowls with one left to go this season; under is also 19-14.

Oklahoma is 6-0 ATS in its last 6 games overall.
The OVER is 12-1 in Oklahoma's last 13 games overall.

Key Injuries - QB Sam Bradford (thumb) is probable.
RB DeMarco Murray (knee) is OUT.
DT DeMarcus Granger (back) is OUT.

Six-pack for Thursday

-- Georgia Bulldogs took major hit for 2009, when QB Stafford and star RB Moreno bolted early for the NFL. This is considered weak year for QBs in the draft, which helps explain Stafford's decision.

-- Wonder what NHL commish Bettman thinks of Matt Sundin's TV commercial with Daniel Negreanu for PokerStars?

-- Deon Tresvant, Cal-Northridge's leading scorer, was arrested on charges of grand theft with the coach's son and two others, charged with taking stuff out of Best Buy without paying. The coach's son worked at the Best Buy; he allegedly allowed the thefts to occur.

-- Browns hired Eric Mangini as head coach; he hired Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator, exiling him from the circus in Oakland.

-- Seahawks hired Greg Knapp as offensive coordinator, re-uniting him with Jim Mora Jr, for whom he worked with the Falcons.

-- Pacman Jones' NFL career probably ended Wednesday when the Cowboys released him, after evidence of further wrongdoing came to light. Very sad story, to be sure.

Thursday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but.......

13) Boston College beat North Carolina in Chapel Hill Sunday night, then somehow lost at home to Harvard Wednesday. By 12. It is the first time Harvard has ever beaten a top 25 team. ESPN's Karl Ravech was so flustered by the upset he called the Harvard team "Crimson Tide". Um, not exactly.

12) Indiana was up 20 in second half on Michigan, but lost by six in OT to the Wolverines, their second straight tough Big 11 setback.

11) Rough night for ACC, as Maryland lost at home to Morgan St, 66-65, which is coached by former Cal coach Todd Bozeman. Very bad loss for the Terps as they head into ACC play. Can you hear me now XXXL and FBF?

10) Washington Huskies made big splash by signing Nick Holt away from USC to be defensive coordinator-- he will get paid $1.9M over three years. Holt quit as head coach at Idaho to be line coach at USC.

9) I'm guessing if the bowl game in Mobile continues next year, they will need a new sponsor; hard to believe GMAC will be throwing $$ at sponsoring sporting events in the next few years.

8) Wish there were more quiz shows on TV- they used to have one on NBC, with teams of college kids competing, and winners staying to play the next week. College Bowl, it was called-- good stuff. They should bring that back, instead of more goofy reality shows.

7) Its a small sample of success, but Timberwolves are 4-0 so far in January, and 6-2 since Christmas. Not sure if Kevin McHale has had a positive effect as coach, or if they're just beating crummy teams-- Warriors-Bulls-Knicks-Thunder and Grizzlies twice. Let’s see them beat someone good before Minnesota fans get too excited.

6) Seven years ago, Jason Giambi turned down $90M for six years from Oakland to play in the Bronx, where he helped Bombers win zero world titles-- now that he's 38 and his career is almost over; he's scammed the A's into giving him $5.25M for one season. Terrific.

5) Lets see, the Packers fired six assistant coaches this week after the 6-10 season that followed LY's 13-3 season. The same coaches who were good enough to be there when Brett Favre was QB aren't smart enough now that Aaron Rodgers is playing??? They're dumb all of a sudden? Why create scapegoats when none are necessary?

4) If Ravens, Chargers both win this weekend, AFC title game will be hosted by a team that was 4-8 six weeks ago.

3) Giants didn't sack Donovan McNabb in either meeting this year.

2) Chances are Jets won't hire Jeff Jagodzinski as head coach, and he isn't going to Seattle, which hired a coordinator Wednesday, so what does the guy do now that Boston College has fired him? Listening to the AD say how "this was my decision....." I got the distinct feeling it definitely was someone else's decision to fire Jagodzinski.

1) Pretty cool that the five living US Presidents had lunch together in the White House Wednesday. Wonder what they talk about?
