Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill has set his sights on signing another of English football’s elite talent by targeting Manchester City keeper Joe Hart in a £3m deal. (Sun)

Could see Joe Hart wanting to leave City for any team currently. The only worry Hart would have is if he’d be signing up for much of the same going to Villa where he may be a number 2 still for another year to two behind Brad Friedel.

Whoever the Heerenveen scouts are they certainly deserve a raise. A year or two before anyone notices, they manage to sign then sell players for a nice profit players like Afonso Alves and Michael Bradley previously.

Aston Villa have jetted off to Dubai for a bit of rest and relaxation in order to recharge their batteries ahead of the battle for a Champions League spot. (Various)

Smart move by Martin O’Neill. There are times to crack the whip and right now is not the time with Villa’s results going south the last couple of weeks.

Ashley Cole could be sent to Coventry but in the metaphorical sense rather than for Chelsea’s FA Cup tie after his arrest for being drunk and disorderly. Or, in fact, Hiddink will let the left-back off and play him against the Midlands club. (Various)

First true test of the Guus Hiddink era concerning what to do with Ashley Cole. A message should be sent to Cole and the rest of this Chelsea team to toe the line.
