The Duke Blue Devils are the favorites for college basketball’s national title as they go for a repeat. Here’s the preview from BroburySports.com.

Duke (7/1)

Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith return and they combined for 35 PPG last year. That eases the loss of guard Jon Scheyer. There isn’t a lot of scoring up front, but the Plumlee brothers are still around. Freshman point guard Kyrie Irving will add to an already deep backcourt. This is a great chance for Coach K to get his fifth national title.

Michigan State (8/1)

Coach Tom Izzo decided to spurn the Cleveland Cavaliers and that’s MSU’s gain. Raymar Morgan is the only key player who won’t be back, although Chris Allen is still in Izzo’s doghouse. I’m not sure they deserve to be this close to Duke, but this is a legitimate national title contender.

Purdue (12/1)

Purdue could easily be ranked second and ahead of Michigan State. They have three great seniors in Robbie Hummel, E’Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson. Hummel is coming off a torn ACL, but he should be close to 100 percent. The supporting cast is the big question, but there is talent available.

Ohio State (18/1)

Ohio State loses all-everything guard Evan Turner. They do add power forward Jared Sullinger, the second-highest ranked recruit in the country. The Buckeyes also have David Lighty, William Buford and Jon Diebler returning, but these odds seem a little optimistic.

Kansas (15/1)

Kansas lost its three best players in Sherron Collins, Cole Aldrich and Xavier Henry. There is always as talent remaining, and Tyshawn Taylor and Marcus Morris should lead the way. However, this isn’t the best team in the Big 12. That honor goes to an undervalued Kansas State team (25/1).

Kentucky (20/1)

What do you do when you lose your five best players, all selected in the first round of the NBA draft? You replace them with the best recruiting class in the country. John Calipari will have a very young and talented team once again. A national title seems like a stretch though.
