College Football Odds – SEC showdown looms at Georgia

by on October 3, 2009

Those who play college football odds haven’t been that impressed by No.4 LSU this year, but they still rank in the top five of the polls. On Sunday, the Tigers head to No.18 Georgia to face the Bulldogs, who have reeled off three straight wins since a disappointing opening-week loss.

LSU vs Georgia odds – Saturday, October 3, 3:30 PM ET

The Tigers’ defense came up big when it needed to in a 30-26 win at Mississippi State, stopping their opponents in a first-and-goal situation with less than two minutes left in the game. The defense has to be tough, because LSU’s offense is just brutal, ranking 105th in the country. If not for a pick-six (interception returned for a touchdown) and a punt-return touchdown, LSU would have been in a world of trouble. Try as he might, sophomore Jordan Jefferson won’t be one of the top NFL picks anytime soon.

A.J. Green was the story in Georgia’s 20-17 win over Arizona State, as he caught eight balls for 153 yards and a touchdown, but he also blocked a field goal in the first quarter that ended up being the difference. The Bulldogs got away with one last week, committing three turnovers, but their defense held the Sun Devils to 204 yards.

The Bulldogs are a 3-point favorite at home in your betting software,  and they’ve won three straight over the Tigers by an average of 21 points, including last year’s 52-38 shootout win. There won’t be nearly that many points scored this year, as the Bulldogs are missing players like Knowshon Moreno and Matt Stafford, who turned out to be first-round NFL picks, while the LSU offense is a complete and utter mess. The Bulldogs would also like to start their October stretch with a win at home, as they head to Tennessee and Vanderbilt before their Halloween showdown with Florida in the “World’s Largest Cocktail Party”. There’s no way the Tigers can go that far with the offense they have, and the Georgia defense should have a field day with Jefferson. Go with Georgia in your sports picks.
