Taking the hill for the plus-.500 Mets will be wunderkind pitcher R.A. Dickey doing his best impression of a Cy Young contender. Dickey’s 11-1 record and 0.91 WHIP are two major reasons why New York has been particularly dominant in 2012, and it’s that dominance that the Mets will look for when the three-game set against the Dodgers kicks off on Friday.

Given their current spot on the MLB odds – in the bottom half, technically, of the World Series futures – is it unreasonable to expect a strong showing against the sexier Dodgers? According to oddsmakers at Bovada, the Mets have 45/1 odds of winning the championship compared to Los Angeles’ 12/1.

As June gives way to July and the All-Star Break approaches, it’s time to take a good long look at the strongest teams from the first seasons and figure out which ones will have the gas to contend in the second. Here’s a chance to weigh in on the Mets if you think they might be among the few.
