Baseball Odds – Zambrano, Jackson should have upper hand on hitters in Detroit

by BetOnline.com on November 2, 2014

Those who are handicapping baseball lines for the opening game of Detroit’s three-game series with the Cubs at Comerica Field will have their hands full as it figures to be a pitching duel between a pair of righthanders who can throw a no-hitter on any given day. This will be one of the toughest baseball picks to make on Tuesday.

Cubs Tigers odds – Tuesday, June 23, 7:05 PM ET

Carlos Zambrano (4-2, 3.44) gave up three runs on six hits over seven innings to earn a no-decision, his third in four outings, in a 6-5 win over the White Sox, striking out three while walking three. The Cubs need Zambrano to stay healthy as he’s an innings-eater, which is great because the Cubs don’t have a great bullpen. The 28-year-old righthander has never faced the Tigers before, but we know he’s comfortable away from Wrigley Field: Zambrano is 3-1 in six road starts this year with a stellar 2.58 ERA, which is a good stat for betting management players.

Edwin Jackson (6-4, 2.39) has been really unlucky lately, as he’s only allowed more than three runs in one of his last five starts, but has a 2-2 record to show for it. The reason being, the Tigers have scored only 12 runs over that time, and his last three outings have been decided by one run. Jackson is second in the American League in ERA, and he’s a solid 3-1 in six starts at Comerica Park with a 3.00 ERA.

Baseball lines should favor the Tigers at home, and this should be a low-scoring affair if you’re checking out the posted total. Both teams are playing well, as the Tigers have a four-game win streak, while the Cubs have also won four in a row ahead of Monday night’s game in Atlanta. Both pitchers must be getting used to the lack of run support, which makes them bear down even more, and it’s going to be a long night in the batter’s box for both dugouts. However, as good as Zambrano’s been on the road, Jackson has been just as good at home. You could see a complete game from one of these pitchers as both bullpens rank in the bottom third of their respective leagues in terms on saves. Still, make the Tigers your baseball betting pick on Tuesday.
