Against CFL Odds, Eskimos Look to Clinch First-Round Bye

Eskimos CFL Football Betting

An unexpected turn of events in Week 17 – namely Hamilton’s 42-10 victory over the B.C. Lions – put the Edmonton Eskimos back at the top of the CFL’s West Division standings. Now they’ll just have to find a way to stay there.

It won’t be easy hanging on to the top spot in the conference, but if Edmonton clinches the division’s coveted first-round bye in a Saturday night matchup against those same Lions, their odds of winning the Grey Cup will skyrocket.

A Week 18 victory would essentially bump 10-6 Edmonton two games ahead of 9-7 B.C., leaving only 9-7 Calgary as a threat for the No. 1 spot. Fortunately for the Eskies, even if Edmonton won this weekend, fell in the finale, and then Calgary won out, they would still hold the spot via their head-to-head tie-breaker.

The straight-forward simplicity of Week 19 makes the game at hand all the more valuable, both for football fans and the CFL odds board.

But can Edmonton actually pull out a crucial road victory in Vancouver?

Through three games so far this season the Lions have bested the Eskimos by a combined score of 86-58. Though Edmonton made a game of it in their last exchange, lingering in the back of their minds will inevitably be the August 19 matchup in which B.C. rocked them 36-1.

If Edmonton falls in Week 18, the Lions will jump into first-place thanks to the tie-breaker they also hold over Calgary.

With the postseason fast approaching, the CFL Futures board at Bodog’s online sportsbook lists the 7/4 Lions as league favorites. Will we see those odds fall?
