Bet Jamaica Daily Sports Roundup: September 30
September 30, 2008
The Minnesota Twins will be looking to punch their ticket to the postseason on Tuesday night by beating the Chicago White Sox. Here’s a look in your Daily Sports Roundup.
The Gridiron Spotlight
You won’t want to shine the spotlight too brightly on Tuesday’s college football matchup, as it’s an underwhelming affair between 1-3 Florida Atlantic and 1-3 Middle Tennessee. The Owls managed to beat UAB a few weeks ago, but they couldn’t get much going against any of Texas, Michigan State, or Minnesota. The Blue Raiders’ lone win came against Maryland, and they’ve been beaten by Troy, Kentucky, and Arkansas State.
When these Sun Belt teams met last season Florida Atlantic came away with a 27-14 home win as 2.5-point favorites. Middle Tennessee had won the previous two meetings between these teams by identical scores of 35-14 (one at home, one on the road), covering the spread twice. The Blue Raiders opened as 1.5-point favorites for Tuesday.
Other Notable Events
The White Sox managed to beat the Tigers in their makeup game on Monday, so now they’ll battle the Twins in a one-game playoff for first place in the AL Central and MLB’s final postseason berth on Tuesday. The winner of this game will move on to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS, with that series getting underway Thursday afternoon.
The Twins will send Nick Blackburn (11-10, 4.15 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday, and the White Sox will counter with John Danks (11-9, 3.47 ERA). Righthander Blackburn beat the White Sox in his last outing, surrendering just two earned runs on eight hits over five innings. Lefthander Danks wasn’t as sharp in his last start, as he was knocked around for seven earned runs on seven hits over four innings of work by the Indians.
The Rest of the Schedule
It’s another slow day for sports on Tuesday, so your only other options are preseason hockey or whatever football games you have saved on your TiVo from the weekend.
News from the Wire
Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett has a strained oblique, and his next start won’t come any earlier than Game 3 of the ALDS against the Angels . . . Angels pitcher Joe Saunders seemed to be recovered from his kidney stone on Sunday - he tossed six scoreless innings in a win versus the Rangers . . . the Ducks have finally brought veteran winger Teemu Selanne back into the fold, signing him to a two-year contract over the weekend.
A Peek at the Future
The opening game of three baseball divisional playoff series are on the schedule for Wednesday, with Milwaukee at Philadelphia, the Dodgers at the Cubs, and Boston at the Angels. The league championship series are slated to get underway on October 9 and 10, while the first game of the World Series will be October 22 . . . the WNBA Finals get underway on Wednesday night in San Antonio and continue through the weekend.

| Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox | |
|
- The Chicago White Sox will be trying to extend a winning streak on Tuesday when they take on the Minnesota Twins at U.S. Cellular Field in a one-game playoff to decide the AL Central. The Twins will trot Nick Blackburn out to the mound in this one. Righthander Blackburn has a 11-10 record and a 4.14 ERA this season. Blackburn’s opponent in this one will be John Danks. The White Sox lefthander has a 3.47 ERA to go along with a 11-9 record this season. Oddsmakers currently have the White Sox listed as 147-moneyline favorites versus the Twins, while the game’s total is sitting at 9. Scott Baker tossed seven shutout innings on Sunday afternoon as the Twins topped the Royals by a score of 6-0 to end their regular season. The Twins got the win as -290 home favorites in that contest, while the combined score fell UNDER the day’s posted total (9). Alexei Ramirez blasted a grand slam on Monday night to lead the White Sox to an 8-2 win over the Tigers in their makeup game. The White Sox won as -225 home favorites in that contest to force Tuesday’s one-game playoff. The combined score was a PUSH against the posted total (10). Team records: Chicago most recently: |

MLB Playoff Betting - NLDS Series will boil down to pitching
September 29, 2008
By Betonline.com
Online sportsbook customers and MLB betting enthusiasts will have an exciting sports betting opportunity beginning this week as MLB playoff betting gets underway. There’s a couple new faces in the NLDS betting pool this year with the Brewers vs. Phillies matchup and the Dodgers vs. Cubs matchup as well. Without question, the backbone of all four of these squads has been their pitching, and the rotations and bullpens will be at war for the first round.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Philadelphia Phillies
It would appear that the Phillies have every conceivable advantage in this series (including home field!), and will thus be favorites on MLB playoff betting odds. The glaring concern for the Brew Crew is their bullpen, because unfortunately, C.C. Sabathia cannot pitch every single night. Question marks run far deeper than Eric Gagne—Solomon Torres isn’t exactly a proven post season dynamo himself. Those looking to bet on the MLB playoffs should beware of the Brewers in close games. Meanwhile, Phillies closer Brad Lidge has been lights out this season, backing up a solid pitching staff headed by Cole Hamels.
Both teams love to use the long ball, but nobody does it better than the Phillies, with MVP candidates Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and dark horses like Jason Werth and Pat Burrell. MLB postseason betting sharps are intrigued by the Phillies depth, and will be adding them to their MLB playoff picks all week despite the MLB playoff odds and NLDS odds.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs
Two coaching legends will duke it out in this series, with the NLDS betting odds in favor of the resurgent Cubs in this one. While Chicago’s pitching rotation is super-deep, with 17-game winner Ted Lilly saddled up as the fourth starter, they’re vastly unproven in terms of NLDS betting. Rich Harden and Carlos Zambrano are two power pitchers who have yet to truly taste the postseason, and can certainly be an anomaly at times. The Dodgers will counter with veterans such as Derek Lowe and Greg Maddux, who will certainly be underdogs on MLB postseason betting lines, however might be the X-factor in this series.
Experience may be the ultimate clincher in this series, and with an experienced staff and a proven winner like Joe Torre behind the bench, the Dodgers could shock the MLB betting world and prevail as NLDS betting underdogs.

How to keep yourself in the game
Let me guess, you are wagering too much money on each game that you play. I bet you are wondering how it is that I know this. That is because for the longest time now I have studied money management and it is pretty clear to me that approximately ninety-nine percent of people who bet on sports are in fact, wagering way too much!
Think about this for a second, would you wager twenty-five percent of your retirement savings account on something that most likely had a forty percent chance of dropping to nothing by tomorrow? The answer is pretty well a no right? Now here is another question for you to mull over, why is it that so many people who bet on sports are willing to chance losing over twenty percent of their money on just one game? The sad fact is that it is extremely easy to risk it all and not even realize it.
Would you take the chance?
This is a pretty touchy subject among people who bet on sports and other events. You can understand why, they have a real problem, most of the time they dont realise it before its too late. Now, if you were offered a ten percent advantage in a game of chance, (45% for the house vs. 55% in your favor) for a total of 500 bets, would you take that chance?
The answer unfortunately is yes, you would jump into that proposition with both feet and a blind fold! Over a course of time (500 bets to be exact), the law of average will say that you might end it all with close to 55% of winners (275 wins vs 225 losses). Now if you were betting one hundred dollars for each bet you would happily walk away with approximately $5,000 right? Piece of cake!
Here is another bit to mull over in your mind. Say that perchance, I told you that you were able to begin the game with only $500 (which would be your bankroll) and that if you lost all of that money, that you would not be able to replenish your supply of cash. Now think about it, in retrospect you could say that I was MAKING you bet 20% of your money on each bet. Here is the kicker, would you take that chance? Would you be able to outsmart me for a mere five thousand dollars?
Now a smart person would be telling themselves, “No, don’t do it, walk away!” but you feel that familiar magic pull that keeps you there, the rush of adrenalin that courses through your body as you stand on the gap between winning and losing. You are definitely going to lose everything in this type of situation.

Carlos Zambrano will be looking to pitch the Cubs to a win on Saturday afternoon when he takes to the hill against the division-rival Cards. Here’s your Daily Sports Roundup …
Event of the day . . .
The Cubs have been pulling away from the Brewers and Cardinals in the NL Central division race, and they’ll get a chance to drop St. Louis farther behind them in the standings with their ace on the mound at home on Saturday afternoon.
Zambrano (12-4, 2.76 ERA) has turned in three strong outings in a row, holding the Marlins, Brewers, and Pirates to a combined three earned runs on 14 hits over 20 innings of work. The Cubs are 7-3 in the righthander’s past 10 starts, and the last time he faced the Cards (July 4) he tossed six shutout innings in a 2-1 Chicago win.
Todd Wellemeyer (8-4, 4.01 ERA) has also been solid in each of his past three outings, allowing just five earned runs over 17 innings versus the Brewers, Braves, and Phillies. However, the Cardinals still went 1-2 in those three games. The righthander faced the Cubs back on July 6, surrendering three earned runs over five innings in a loss.
Non-event of the day . . .
The Buccaneers had the worst record of any division winner in the NFL last season, the Dolphins had the worst record in all of football, and neither team managed to snag Brett Favre from the Packers. Tampa Bay and Miami will meet in preseason action at Dolphin Stadium on Saturday night, with the home team favored by 1.5 points.

The Ravens will be looking to run their record to 3-0 on the season on Monday night when they go to Pittsburgh to play the rival Steelers. Here’s your Daily Sports Roundup.
The Gridiron Spotlight
Baltimore is 2-0 on the year, thanks to games against struggling division rivals Cincinnati and Cleveland and an unexpected, hurricane-imposed bye in Week 2. The Ravens began the year by beating the Bengals 17-10 at home, and followed up that result by topping the Browns 28-10 at home last week. Baltimore managed to pick up an ATS win in both of those contests, while the OVER/UNDER is at 1-1 for them this year.
Pittsburgh was tagged with their first loss of the year last weekend, falling 15-6 in Philadelphia as 3.5-point underdogs. The Steelers began the campaign by thumping the Texans 38-17, and they then squeaked past the Browns 10-6 in Week 2. That puts Pittsburgh at 2-1 straight-up and 1-2 against-the-spread on the season, and only their easy victory over Houston in Week 1 has provided an OVER result for their supporters.
The Ravens and Steelers split their season series 1-1 last year, with each team winning and covering at home (in a pair of OVER results). For Monday night the oddsmakers have Pittsburgh listed as a 5-point home favorite, with the total pegged at just 34 points. Steelers RB Willie Parker will miss Monday’s game with a knee injury, leaving Rashard Mendenhall as their starter. Ravens DB Samari Rolle (shoulder/neck) is OUT as well.
Other Notable Events
There’s a single baseball game on the schedule for Monday, with Gavin Floyd (16-8, 3.91 ERA) and the White Sox hosting Freddy Garcia (1-1, 4.50 ERA) and the Tigers in a makeup contest. If Chicago manages to beat Detroit in the Monday matinee they’ll then play a one-game playoff against the Twins on Tuesday to decide the AL Central title.
As well, the New York Liberty and the Detroit Shock will play the third and deciding game of the WNBA’s Eastern Conference Finals on Monday night (at Eastern Michigan University). The Shock rallied to avoid elimination on Sunday afternoon, with Deanna Nolan pouring in a team-high 22 points in their 64-55 win over the Liberty in Game 2.
The Rest of the Schedule
There’s nothing else on the schedule on a light Monday around the world of sports, unless you’re into preseason hockey (the NHL regular season gets started Saturday).
News from the Wire
Each of Rolle, DT Kelly Gregg (knee), S Dawan Landry (neck), and QB Troy Smith (illness) are OUT for Baltimore. WR Yamon Figurs (hamstring), LB Nick Greisen (thigh), and T Adam Terry (ankle) are QUESTIONABLE, while LB Tavares Gooden (hip), LB Ray Lewis (foot), RB Le’Ron McClain (migraine/ankle), RB Willis McGahee (eye), CB Fabian Washington (neck), and TE Daniel Wilcox (shoulder/ankle) are PROBABLE . . . Parker, DT Casey Hampton (groin), and DE Brett Keisel (calf) are OUT for Pittsburgh, while LB Donovan Woods (hamstring) is DOUBTFUL, and CB William Gay (ankle), S Troy Polamalu (quadricep), and CB Deshea Townsend (heel) are all PROBABLE.
A Peek at the Future
The MLB playoffs and the WNBA Finals both get rolling this week, while the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will head to Talladega for Sunday’s Amp Energy 500 . . . those first NHL regular season games will take place in Europe over the weekend, with the Rangers and Lightning in Prague, and the Penguins and Senators in Stockholm . . . college football gets started again Tuesday, with Florida Atlantic at Middle Tennessee.
Bet Jamaica Daily Sports Roundup: September 28
September 27, 2008
The NFL stages its Week 4 on Sunday, while baseball concludes its regular-season schedule. Here’s a glimpse at the action in today’s edition of the Daily Sports Roundup.
The Gridiron Spotlight
The Titans, Broncos, Bills, and Cowboys will all be looking to run their records to 4-0 on Sunday when they take to the field. Tennessee and Dallas are both favored at home in their games; the Titans are favored by 3 points against the Vikings, while the Cowboys will be looking to cover an 11-point spread against the Redskins. The Broncos and Bills are both road favorites; it’s Denver (-10) at Kansas City, and Buffalo (-8) at St. Louis.
At the other end of the standings, the 0-3 Bengals will play host to the 0-3 Browns on Sunday afternoon. The loser of that AFC North matchup will be in a huge hole in the playoff race, and the oddsmakers have given the Bengals the 3.5-point edge to win.
Other Sunday afternoon matchups include San Francisco at New Orleans (-5), Arizona at the Jets (-1), Green Bay at Tampa Bay (-1), Atlanta at Carolina (-6.5), and Houston at Jacksonville (-7). As well, the 1-2 Chargers will be looking to get their record back to the .500 mark when they take on the 1-2 Raiders in Oakland as big 7.5-point road favorites.
Rounding out the Sunday NFL schedule will be Philadelphia at Chicago at 8:15pm ET. The Eagles are 2-1 in the tight NFC East, while the Bears have struggled to a 1-2 record on the season. And even though this game is being played at Soldier Field the Eagles have been pegged as the 3-point favorites, with the total listed at 40 points.
Other Notable Events
The drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will hit the track at Kansas Speedway on Sunday afternoon for the Camping World RV 400 presented by Coleman. Greg Biffle has won each of the first two Chase events, and he’ll be trying to make it three in a row on Sunday. Biffle and Johnson are tied for second place in the current driver standings, 10 points back of Carl Edwards. Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick are sitting fourth and fifth.
Biffle won the series’ event at Kansas last season, and he’s tied with Johnson, Edwards, and Kyle Busch as the 6/1 Vegas favorite to take the checkered flag on Sunday. Tony Stewart, who won the Banquet 400 at Kansas back in 2006, is pegged at 11/1 odds to visit victory lane. Two-time Kansas champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 15/1.
The Rest of the Schedule
The NL Wild Card berth is still in play, with the Mets and Brewers now tied in that race. Milwaukee will send CC Sabathia (10-2, 1.78 ERA in the NL) to the mound at home against the Cubs on Sunday afternoon, while Oliver Perez (10-7, 4.25 ERA) will try to pitch the Mets past the Marlins at home at the same time. If those teams are still tied at the end of the day on Sunday they’ll play a one-game playoff Monday in New York.
Also still to be decided is the AL Central title, with the White Sox and Mark Buehrle (14-12, 3.87 ERA) hosting Cleveland on Sunday, and the Twins and Scott Baker (10-4, 3.59 ERA) getting a visit from Kansas City. Minnesota has a half-game lead on Chicago in the division, and they can clinch top spot with a win Sunday combined with a White Sox loss. However, if Chicago is still a half-game back after Sunday they’ll play a makeup game with the Tigers on Monday. Should the Twins and White Sox be tied in the standings after that Monday contest they’ll play a one-game playoff on Tuesday.
As well, the Yankees will have Mike Mussina (19-9, 3.47 ERA) trying for his 20th win of the season when they play at Fenway Park in Boston on Sunday afternoon, so they’ll be pulling out all the stops to try and get him to that mark for the first time in his career. New York and Boston will actually play twice on Sunday thanks to Saturday’s rainout.
The WNBA playoffs will continue on Sunday afternoon, with New York at Detroit in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, and Los Angeles at San Antonio in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. New York holds a 1-0 lead in their three-game set, while San Antonio pulled out a victory on Saturday afternoon to tie up that series at 1-1.
Finally, the CFL concludes its week on Sunday with Saskatchewan at Montreal (-6.5), while the PGA Tour wraps up its playoffs on the final day of THE TOUR Championship.
News from the Wire
Notable players listed as OUT for Sunday’s NFL games heading into the weekend: Arizona DE Bert Berry (groin), Browns S Sean Jones (knee), Dallas S Roy Williams (forearm), Chiefs QB Brodie Croyle (right shoulder), Saints WR Marques Colston (thumb) and TE Jeremy Shockey (hernia), Jets K Mike Nugent (right thigh), Raiders RB Justin Fargas (groin), Rams WR Drew Bennett (foot), Buccaneers WR Joey Galloway (foot), Titans QB Vince Young (knee/hamstring), and Redskins DE Jason Taylor (calf).
A Peek at the Future
A slow Monday in sports will be highlighted by the matchup of the Ravens and Steelers in Pittsburgh. The Steelers opened as 7-point home favorites in that contest, but that line has since fallen to just 5 points (with the total pegged at 34 points) . . . as well, there will be a Game 3 in the WNBA’s Eastern Conference Finals in Detroit on Monday night if the Shock manage to knock off the Liberty in their Sunday afternoon matchup.
