COLLEGE FOOTBALL BETTING: FUTURE BOOKS OFFER VERSATILITY
July 17, 2008
The kickoff of the 2008 season still is weeks away but there are at least a couple of good reasons why college football betting should be near the top of your wagering playbook right now.
For starters, it’s never too early to begin researching the upcoming gridiron campaign, which begins with 14 games on Thursday, Aug. 28. More importantly, sportsbooks already have future book lines posted, asking gamblers to wager on which university will be crowned the Bowl Champion Series (BCS) national titleholder in
Sure, some future book lists are drenched with vigorish, but savvy bettors understand that a swig of bitter juice this summer may be worth the discomfort if you can taste the fruit at the end of the vine come January. That’s because while betting an individual team may have some value in and of itself, the real advantage is in holding a ticket on a live team for the BCS title game.
In that regard, bettors need not pick the winner of the BCS game, just one of the two participants. If you have the favorite in futures, then you can assure yourself a solid payday by betting the underdog in the championship game. You can take the points and possibly win twice-if your future book favorite wins but does not cover-or opt for the dog on the money line, where you’ll only win once, but the return on the underdog will be greater.
If you hold a future book ducat on the BCS underdog, then a profit can be assured by betting the favorite on the money line.
Of course, before any of this college football betting manipulation can take place, you have to identify a likely candidate (or three) for the BCS title game. Like last year, it’s unlikely that the championship game will feature an undefeated team and, as was the case last season, even a team with two defeats could play for the title.
With that in mind, let’s look at some early contenders (future book odds in parentheses):

“Team Bodog players had an amazing run at this year’s series in Las Vegas, and we’re already gearing up for next summer by awarding three seats to the 2009 Main Event,” said Morris Mohawk Gaming Group CEO Alwyn Morris. “The three winners of our Bodog Poker Mini Series are guaranteed an experience like no other in Las Vegas as they compete for a shot at poker stardom and millions of dollars.”
The 27-player final tournament of the Bodog Mini Series consisted of the top four players on the series’ Tournament Leader Board, 18 players from the Semifinal qualifier and five selected from a random “wild card” drawing of players who had entered at least three Mini Series events. The Final Table took place on Thursday, July 10, and the top three finishers were awarded $12,000 Main Event Prize Packages with the rest of the final nine players receiving T$109.
With buy-ins ranging from as low as $10+$1 up to $100+$9, the Bodog Poker Mini Series was an exceptional value for players of all skill levels and is just the latest offering from Bodog that guarantees online poker players the absolute best value for their tournament dollars. Over the course of the series, Bodog played host to 3,376 online poker players and paid out a total of $107,000 in prize money.
Next summer’s Main Event is just one of a number of tournaments held around the world that poker players can qualify for through Bodog. From the WSOP* Europe in London to events across Europe, Asia and North America, Bodog’s Player’s Choice packages give winners the opportunity to play in some of the most exciting and exotic locations in the world in total Bodog style.

Barney Frank Says Online bet battle will continue
July 16, 2008
Online bet battle will continue
14 July 2008
by Tony Batt
By Las Vegas Gaming Wire
WASHINGTON, DC — Despite a stunning setback in his effort to roll back a ban on Internet gambling, Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., says the issue is not going away.
“At this point, I’m waiting to see what the Republicans, who voted against this, plan to do after getting the heat for killing it,” Frank said this week.
Opponents of the ban were oozing confidence on June 25 as the House Financial Services Committee prepared to vote on an amendment to stop federal agencies from drafting regulations to enforce the online gambling ban that Congress passed two years ago.
The question was not whether the amendment by Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., would pass, but how large the margin would be. If it proved large enough, the King amendment could have come up for a vote on the House floor before Congress adjourned this year.
But the amendment died when the committee split along party lines and delivered a 32-32 tie.
Then by voice vote, the committee defeated a bill by Frank to legalize Internet gambling and require the Department of Treasury to regulate online wagering.
Frank said the surprising turnaround occurred because Internet gambling supporters underestimated pressure coming from “the right wing of the Republican Party.”
“There is a great deal of discomfort between those on the business end of the Republican Party and those on the social conservative end of the party about this bill,” Frank said. “A lot of Republicans wanted to vote for this, but they were pressured by their leadership to vote against it.”
A lobbyist, who requested anonymity, said the committee’s ranking Republican, Rep. Spencer Bachus of Alabama, took the vote “extremely personally.”
Bachus exerted enormous pressure on other Republicans, including those who already had indicated support for the King amendment, to vote against it, the lobbyist said.
Marisol Garibay, a committee spokeswoman for Bachus, denied he twisted arms to pick up votes.
“Absolutely not. He has never done anything like that,” Garibay said.
Nevertheless, Frank remains confident that time is on his side.
“The problem the other side has is that nothing is going to be done on the regulations because it’s impossible to get them done,” Frank said.
In April, regulators from the Federal Reserve and the Department of Treasury told the committee they are struggling to draft the regulations because the 2006 law mandating the ban does not define “unlawful Internet gambling.”
“Something must have gotten lost in translation between the hearings and the vote,” said Michael Waxman, a spokesman for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative.
Even if the King amendment and his bill had passed the House this year, Frank acknowledged they would not have made it through the Senate.
As daunting as the challenge is to gain House approval to repeal an Internet gambling ban, the task in the Senate promises to be much more difficult.
Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz. who authored the first bill to ban Internet gambling in 1996, is already pressuring the Treasury Department to finish regulations to enforce the ban.
And Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev, a former chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, has said he does not believe Internet gambling can be effectively regulated.
When asked if he would revive efforts against the ban in 2009, Frank said, “Of course.”
But Frank added it’s “way too speculative” to assume his bill will pass next year even though Democrats are expected to gain seats in the House and on his committee after the November elections.
Former Sen. Alfonse D’Amato, R-N.Y., chairman of the Poker Players Alliance, took a glass-half-full perspective on the 32-32 vote that stopped the King amendment.
“That’s the best vote we’ve had so far on this issue, and I think it’s a harbinger of good things to come,” D’Amato said.
D’Amato described the ban as “ridiculous legislation” and he said Bachus “is full of zeal.”
“Unfortunately, some members felt pressured by him, but I do think that the responsibility ultimately rests with individual members for their votes,” D’Amato said.
The American Gaming Association, which represents Nevada casinos, remains neutral on Internet gaming because of a split among its members.
The association continues to push a bill by Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., calling for a one-year study of Internet gambling by the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences.
Berkley’s bill has 73 co-sponsors.
Holly Thomsen, an association spokeswoman, said a study “can help determine what future legislative or regulatory action is appropriate.”

Why does a person Gamble ? Good Question, with a lot of Answers.
There are many reasons why people gamble, and there are many ways To Gamble.
From stories from My dad, back in the 30’s, they gambled on the game of Pool, Dice, Cards ( Poker ) and Numbers, ( you remember this, where it would be the last 3 numbers of the Track handle )
But over the years, gambling has become Big Business. ie, Horse racing, Poker and Sports. Casinos have plenty to offer on Gambling as well.
I like when a person says to me they Don’t Gamble. You Don’t ? I say… Do you Own Stocks ? Yes Do you Own Real Estate ? Yes
Well, Then you Gamble as well.
If you would look up the Word Gambling in the Dictionary, you will find 6 or 7 defintions.
1.
to play at any game of chance for money or other stakes.
2.
to stake or risk money, or anything of value, on the outcome of something involving chance: to gamble on a toss of the dice.
3.
to lose or squander by betting (usually fol. by away): He gambled all his hard-earned money away in one night.
4.
to wager or risk (money or something else of value): to gamble one’s freedom
5.
to take a chance on; venture; risk: I’m gambling that our new store will be a success.
6.
any matter or thing involving risk or hazardous uncertainty
7.
a venture in a game of chance for stakes, esp. for high stakes
Some of these are scary, aren’t they.
So with the above defintions listed, Why in the World would you gamble. Better question would be, If you saw the above Would you have Started to gamble ?
My guess would be that only 10-20%, if shown the above Defintions would have not started to gamble. Because most gamblers that I know, that have Bet over the past 30 years. Wouldn’t know better about ” hazardous uncertainty ” 30 or 40 years ago. They would have been too young to care less.
So the question remains the same, why do people Gamble ?
Could be A) The Thrill ? B) The Action ? C) The Money ? or D) ALL
The answer is “D” People love the Thrill of Winning. People Love the Action and Most of all They Love to Win Money.
But of course there is a Down side to Gambling, Losing Money !
At this point, you can throw out the “Thrill ” and the ” Money ” but you still have the Action.
Now there is no sure fire way of making you a winning Gambler, but I will leave you with this to help give you a small edge.
When Sports Gambling, Look for the Best Line. Meaning you need more then One Sportsbook when Betting Sports. You need to shop the Lines. You need to get the Best Price.
You might ask why, what’s the difference ? Doesn’t matter if I lay -120 or -125
WRONG ! There is a Difference if you lay -120 or -125 Because if you Lose, you lose $5 more then if you would have found it for -120.
Big Deal, who cares about $5.00 Bucks….Well if you played 30 Games in a week and you lost Half ( 50% ) that adds up to $75 a week Extra that you lost.
Now if you take that for a Whole year, 52 weeks it adds up to $3,900 in a Year That you could have saved by Shopping the Lines.
This is Only if you can hit ( win ) 50% of the time for a Whole year.
The other thing that will give you a small Edge is Money Mangement.
You have heard this plenty of times, Use it ! it Works.

Arena Football League – A New Rising Game
July 13, 2008
Arena Football League started in year 1987 even when doubts were there. The games are usually held indoors and on an 85 feet wide and 50-yards long playing field. The AFL as it commonly referred to, is participated by players who did not make it to the NFL because of either they are too small or too slow for the NFL games. Also, AFL opened a chance for the game to create more offensive, high-scoring games as opposed to the NFL’s overused defensive style.
At the start there were only a few small successes in the AFL but in 2002, it changed the game’s fate. That year, the organizers teamed up with NBC to broadcast the games on TV. True enough it had given the AFL a chance not only to survive, but to prosper and become more widely known. An added strategy, it airs while the NFL is not playing, so it fills a void for football fans during the usual “doldrums of summer” many football fans endure.
As its popularity is rising, AFL has also shown an increase in bookmakers in Las Vegas and Online. Many personalities believe that the AFL really has a future, and the best is yet to come. Personalities such as Bob Scucci, a sportsbook manager and Ken White, new owner of Las Vegas Sports Consultants are among the AFL’s most avid observers, with the latter even considered an expert of AFL.
The Ultimate Bowl Betting Commandment
July 12, 2008
The sports betting community does not just make lines for others to follow., they also make their own rules. They have even come up with the Ten Commandments for betting in the bowl games. This is supposed to have ten do’s and don’ts in making a bet but we’ll just take the first commandment.
Thou shall look and pick the games’ straight up winner.
Usually the underdogs players are always preoccupied by the pointspread in their games. The lines set in every game matters most when the game’s favorite wins. The pointspread is covered when the opposite happens with the underdogs winning the match up. The relationship of the line and pointspread is showed in terms of inverse proportion that is the line is high and the pointspread is low or the line is low when the pointspread is high.
The record for the line and pointspread since the 1991 season shows the 73.5% pointspread of the winning team. This percentage is almost 3 games won out of four in the total of 5,200 games. The bowl games had a higher percentage and whose lines just reached 11% of the entire 150 bowl games. The winning team covered the pointspread of 88.7% in all eight seasons since 1991.
These figures just prove the first given commandment. This means that a good bowl bettor must control his obsessions with the line and must check on the teams with the greater chance of winning straight up in the game.
Making The Odds Work
July 12, 2008
Oddsmaking or linemaking in sports betting is a long process that involves some of the smartest and wisest professional gamblers in the industry. Setting up the line for the following week of NFL, or any sports match up, is usually done in a Sunday afternoon meeting of different sports gamblers.
Every game or match up is reviewed and every wise guy shares his individual theory on every match up. The line is set based on their collaborative ideas and the numbers that they have come up with are then forwarded to the Las Vegas Stardust. Here the management and other consultants review and make some necessary adjustments before posting the lines.
The sharks or the ‘Wise Guys’ of the business are professional bettors who make the final adjustment in the weekly line. They start by drawing straws to determine the first bettor. They take turns in making their bets affecting the lines that are then adjusted and balanced by the sports books. The betting goes on and stops when the last bettor sees no more gain on the next move.
The final line will be released on the following morning where the linemakers put the numbers that came up based on the decisions of the wiseguys involved in the process. Making up a line is a long process that only those who have enough patience have the chance to prosper.
Home Dogs, Home Heroes
July 12, 2008
In the 2002 regular NFL season, after all 256 games had been played 92 match ups had lines with home teams being underdogs. These match ups are some of the most watched and wagered on games in the regular season. The home dog match ups rarely happened during the playoffs as the Home teams are usually the better team.
Bettors on NFL regular season games found a trend that happened in all 92 games. In all 92 games, the home teams got the not so bad record of 42-50 straight up this year. Last year’s record had the home dogs bagging 53-37-2 or a win percentage of 58%.
The home teams specially those who know that they are looked down as under dogs carry the most pressure in playing in front of their home fans. They are much willing and motivated to prove the people and the media wrong in labeling them as the underdogs. The pressure and the convenience of the home court advantage give the home dogs a greater chance to win their match up.
Bettors know this player’s attitude so they put most of their investments on the home teams in every home dog games. The players do not bet money on their games but their careers are at stake in their every game especially the home court games.
The 7 Points on Football Betting
July 12, 2008
Among the online sports, sports book or also called as the local bookie is the one taking the bet on top. Definitely, a football sport is considered to be the most excellent game in terms of acts and pleasure. Now if you are competent enough of maintaining your intellect and compassion detach towards examining the games, you have then a higher chance to win the term. Listed as follows are little significant points to consider for several grave handicappers.
Ø Numerous men that wager a 1-900-number does not have indoors tips or covert detectives concealed in the storeroom.
Ø Watch as many as football games as possible. No body is indeed hit from watching the game. It is not enough to watch ESPN or reading materials for sports since it does not actually describe the whole tale
Ø Know the trash backyards and the backdoor cover. Definitely players might have had 400 yard passing, but that will happen after turning down to 28-0 and playing next to men who didn’t even experience high school.
Ø Keep away from replicating expenses
Ø It’s cool to watch passing but the key is running.
Ø Be aware of the tendencies and stride calmly. Most part of the sample magazines has placed these incredible tendencies.
Ø It is advisable to load up in the earlier period if you have something to load up.
The Vig – How reliable is it?
July 12, 2008
Having an ideal world, the international sports books in Nevada may possibly obtain the balanced quantity of capital on every part of a football sports without even stirring from their place. This could provide the book inventors a 4.4 percent assurance of having income and would get rid of the threat, which is natural in accepting sports gambling. The earnings of unbiased battles move towards the vig, or juice that is charge on sports wage. The vigorish or in short vig provides the books a fitted perimeter aligned with the gambling community.
Nevertheless, it’s not an ideal earth for the book readers of the fresh millennium. They are requiring that each book for sports must be concerned with a huge number of games every week of the football period where they have large assessments riding on every result. Whereas, various shops choose to have a judgment on a bigger part of the sports competition. On the other hand a lot people preferred to have as many games as possible that relies on the vig in order to guarantee income and expect for a little positive outcome in the rest of the competition.
Since the books frequently have the choice resulting to have numerous football games on Sunday, then there is an actual possibility that they will be able to lose funds throughout the NFL weekend. Though it was protected with the vig, there is always a constant risk that things might go wrong on Sundays.
